I managed to photograph some aurora borealis in the sky above Sechelt, as I spent some time in Nanaimo's Neck Point park this evening. I've never had this happen before, so it was pretty exciting for me. Here's how it looked through some longer exposures. Naked eye view was barely discernible. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Saanich Inlet is beautiful at dawn, seen from the Split Rock viewpoint on the Malahat drive. - the glow on the left background is Vancouver's light pollution, not the impending sunrise. (sunrise was out-of-frame off the right side, when it eventually happened) . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr The view towards Brentwood Bay and Central Saanich . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ---------------- A great morning to be outside enjoying the coast. (well, after the rain stopped)

Victoria – by land and by sea |
| Ogden Point cruise ship terminal, Dallas Road in James Bay | This shot could be filed under cruise ships or buses as it has both, but I am going to post it here as part of my plan to keep Flugel Horn on his toes.
I love dichotomy... |
haha, keep in mind that I'm a volunteer. My forum admin time is limited. And we have threads for cruise ships, and for buses. No need to use the general assorted thread for something that we've already set up a specific item for. - So my encouragement to you is to seek out the existing threads, and keep new threads to a minimum. Generally, the "assorted photography" thread is for anything that doesn't fit into one of our many transportation categories. Like those Spoons photos, although they sang about "Romantic Traffic" and that's kinda transpo.

Nanoose Bay has been home to marinas, aquaculture operations, a large lumber mill, a yellow submarine Thanks for that. I remember seeing the yellow submarine frequently as a kid, and know I know the story. Nanoose Bay was also the site of a rail-barge landing; I believe the place was known as "Jaynem."

You're very close, it was actually known as Jayem. The construction of Wellcox Yard and the new dock, in Nanaimo, rendered it obsolete.

Here are some pictures taken at Mission Ridge, a small ski resort just outside of Wenatchee, and my home away from home. During Ski season, I spend sometimes as many as ten days a month here. This place is beautiful, and a good place for some awesome photography. Looking down upon the town of Wenatchee Looking across at Mission Peaks Bowl Four, looking slightly in need of snow... The Bomber Cliffs September 30, 1944; a B-24 Liberator bomber crashed on the mountain. Today, part of the wing is mounted in the resort as a memorial. Some ferries are just so popular, that Mission Ridge saw it fit to name Ski runs in their honor...

We don't have a thread for ferry photo art- although, granted, some of our better photographers have posted work that would qualify, of individual vessels. This isn't quite the same though... a few pieces from Roberta Pyx Sutherland, the artist who painted the Warhol soup can near my place.

When you think about it, there are countless little visual vignettes on and around the ferries, that can make arresting images. Doesn't have to be traditional boat shots.

Active Pass is a lovely place, and even more so in the early morning. 4:34am on July 13, 2016 DSC04007 (2) by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr This is a wonderful, ten second exposure capturing the early dawn glow. Thanks for sharing. My natural body rhythms are for me to be a night owl. But interestingly enough, its easier for me to do early, early mornings for work, than a normal, regular person start time (having to start work/school at 8AM is my hell). Thus, over the years, especially when I was driving for a career, I'd often find myself at work, before or around 4AM. And I always loved the peaceful, early mornings as dawn broke. Just a wonderful time to be awake.

I agree regarding the early pre-dawn and sunrise times. I got this shot of the Charles Bridge in Prague just after sunrise in 2014!

My wife & I spent a night camping at Downing Provincial Park on Kelly Lake in the south Cariboo a few nights ago. We stayed in campsite # 9. I was disappointed that 10 Downing was already occupied ... Anyways, I caught this beauty very close to the campsite while on an early morning walk ... I had fun on Quadra Island in July.

The tidal currents in Active Pass are shown in this timelapse video of a morning at the edge of Active Pass.
- It's a ripping good place to watch the power of water and the moon.

I went to a Nanaimo seashore on Friday night, looking for nice dusk colours. I found them. This is at the Charlaine Boat Ramp, next to Shack Island and near to Pipers Lagoon. DSC00628 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr
