Maybe they'll move the Queen of Esquimalt's superior playroom (in her covered solarium) into the Queen of New Westminster;)

The red color paint on the New Westminster is primer paint.
The original paint is either sandblasted off with an air hose that is filled with sand or with a rumbler machine.

When is the new-west going to be retired? 10 years? anyways its seems like the new-west is getting her "phase2" operation lol its like there pumping more drugs into to her then her 45 (80) year old frame can handle now a phase3 operation may be necessary if bcf plans to keep it running for 25 more years .

I went down to the Lonsdale Quay today to take some photos with my video camera of any progress. So in a couple of hours, hopefully before the evening is over, I'll post the photos I captured. The photos will include closeups of the enclosed solarium, new windows being cut for more lounge space below the funnel, the massive hole in the wall of the mid ship lounge on the promenade deck. The Queen of Burnaby was also down there as well, but she was tucked in behind the WMG buildings, so it was hard to get a good photo.

the ferry rider, I could not agree moreso, I think it is a waste too and BCFS should have just gotten another Coastal (only bigger )

Thanks for posting that, Neil. I thuroughly enjoyed reading it. As promised, here are the photos of the Queen of New Westminster, which are now 9 days old now. My telephoto lens did pretty well for looking right up close to specific detail of the ship. Click on the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the photo you're looking at, to see the full size. But you'll have to click and drag your mouse to view the rest of the photo. picasaweb.google.com/Ferryman2008/QueenOfNewWestminster

The New West, is in fact no where near completion. It's believe that she will not be ready to go back into service until October. I took a quick drive past her on Saturday morning, and saw next to no visable exterior progress. So she still looks the same, as what you see in the photos up above.

Yes, the focus is appropriately on the vessel herself, but what about the engines she gave up when she was first lifted and refitted including the reforming of her hull in 1991? For years her old engines have been preserved, in custom built sheds, at Deas. Today these engines are finally being dealt with, disposed of in fact... Destruction of original Queen of New Westminster engines

Soon I'll add edited images from my open-casket viewing of our decommissioned queen that I captured today, but for now I hope this will do.

I was at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier on Monday evening and I agree with Chris that there still a lot of work left on the QNW. There were crews working on her but I could see that the passenger desks were unfinished. Since it was getting dark and with the help of the ship's interiors lights, I can see that the crew was working on putting in new structure in the cafeteria for food counter and table layout. Another crew was working up top behind the funnel. I wish I had my camera with me. I guess WMG is just using minimal crew right now since they have other projects like Nanny in dry dock and that QNW isn't expected by BCF to be ready until the fall.

Destruction of original Queen of New Westminster enginesI'll bet that some of the parts have been removed and used on some of the other 'B' class ships the unless of course the Nanaimo or the Burnaby never had the same original motor...or they two have received engine changes. Just a thought we run heavy equipment and sometimes old machines just die...and they become wrecking yards for the rest of the fleet.

Currently she sits in the drydock, with a fresh coat of red paint on the hull with out propellars and rudders. Other than that, I could see next to no difference at least on the outside. This is what I saw as of last Saturday (July 5th)

Alright, folks! Here's the latest update from tonight! I guess you can say they're only just starting to put her back together. I took a variety of close up shots, for your own viewing pleasure. You can notice a layer of primer on much of the walls along the Sundeck now, including the new Solarium lounge. We are now at 9 months into this refit. I've been hearing she won't be back in service until late October or November. Time will only tell. Enjoy! PS: Take a good look at the railings taking shape on the sundeck. Maybe you'll C a difference. That's the Spirit, now you're starting to get it!

Nice to see an Update on the New West. I see what you mean about the railing.
Didn't get anything of the I-Sky though? Or was she even in view?

Here's an update from 6 days ago.... I just haven't had the time to post them until now. These are night time shots obviously. I apologize for the semi blurryness, as I was somewhat under the influence after a few drinks with Coastal Skier last Saturday evening... Anyways, as you can see, it looks pretty well bare bones inside still. But at least they're starting to put her all back together now. No pictures but I do have an update on the New West. They have started painting her. The passenger decks have been painted white as of Sunday.
I'll check again when I get the chance.
