It would appear that she is painted. Is this true or was the top always painted?

It would appear that she is painted. Is this true or was the top always painted? The whole vessel is painted. Not sure about the name, registry and some of the more "detail" items but the basics are all there now. That's been done over the last few weeks, and looks like it may have wrapped up.

A fire alarm is going off at the dry dock right now, apparently all the staff are assembling outside the area of the New West and there are firetrucks on scene. Not sure if it involves the ferry. I'm about to leave Vancouver for the weekend but it may be worth keeping tabs to see if it involved the vessel?

I noticed new windows right below the Funnle on the sundeck. I will make a guess and say this is going to be a New Seawest lounge. This is the best pictures I have of the same area on the vessle in 2007 and you can see the difference. Note the TV attena

I was having my car worked on at the Northshore Auto Mall today, so I walked over to the Vancouver drydock to see the New West myself. She's looking good on the outside, but don't let that fool you. I walked out on to the big long pier beside the drydock, and used the binoculars they have set up on there to get a super close up look at her. Here's what I've discovered: -The circular tables that are normally set up on the sundecks of the Ferries are all sitting on the roof of the upper aft lounge. I'm assuming that they're just sitting up there to be kept out of the way, and then will be brought down to a lower deck later on . -I saw a Soft Ice Cream machine sitting in the Upper Aft Lounge, so this could be a sign that there will be a buffet in this lounge. -I tried to figure out where the Seawest Lounge is going to be, but it's too early to see. -The walls of the Cafeteria have taken shape, and she will have a cafeteria layout like the Esquimalt/Saanich/Tsawwassen, with the lineup for food leading along the cafeteria windows. - None of the lights or drop ceilings have been installed yet. So they're still using the temporary lighting set up, which means she's still a long ways off from being complete. - The bridge looked like it was still all torn apart, but beginning to be put back together. - I could see the long horn pull cord neatly wound up and just hanging from the funnel, waiting to be suspended back over to the bridge. Here's the pics: I walked right up to the Security Gate for this one

I don't know if I need new glasses. But, I see something interesting on the rooftop of the aft area on the QUEEN OF NEW WESTMINSTER. I see what appears like exterior snack table seating.

I think we should tell BC Ferries to make that the new smokers lounge. The will have to install seat belts though to keep them from being blown overboard. Call it the Open Air Seawest Lounge and charge $10 for access with unlimited oxygen.

I am now employed in North Van and taking the seabus, so I'll be passing the New West twice daily! I'll report and suspicious movements or developments as they happen.

I just happened to be in the area tonight, and noticed that she's back in the water again. She was all lit up inside, so perhaps they've really picked things up on putting her back together. I could be wrong though, as I couldn't look at her in detail, seeming I almost got in an accident merging into another lane at the same time.

In regard to the tables on top of the lounge: I have come to the conclusion that the tables are been stored up there temporary and I would guess and asume that they will be placed on to the deck on the Sundeck along the exterior of the lounge prior to entering service. This would be the only logical place for them on the ship.

Inquiry, Corporal: Why do you post photos completely unrelated to what you are talking about in your post...? We appreciate your contributions, but if your photos aren't updates of the ship in refit, there are plenty of other sections for them... elsewhere.

I am surprised they haven't re-named her. I thought they might, but I guess they didn't.

Because BCF wants to get ride of anything to do with the old public service. It would be so easy to do right know, and they don't like the "Queen of" naming scheme anyways.

The Coastal Never Ending Refit That would befitting to such a long refitting! Edit...quick...someone come up with an appropriate d-word to finish that name so we can call her the Coastal NERD ;D
