First big storm of the season expected this morning; the remnants of the tropical storm Lingling. Here's a thread to share your reports and even photos for the upcoming storm season.
Hopefully not too many sailings are cancelled.

Also crossing my fingers that more of the significant trees in Stanley Park don't come down. I can remember crossing in V's before they were lifted where the ship was rocking from side to side so much when you looked across the ferry all you could see was sea one minute and all sky the next. The cafeteria was closed for anything hot because of the risk of people being burnt. As a kid it was fun but I remember my Mother being very worried.

Well this first storm wasent really that big but on my way home I stopped by the Esquimalt Lagoon and captured a few shots of the waves with the Queen of Saanich in the background in the Esquimalt Drydock. and a short little video clip

Well that’s just grand, my folks are on a plane back from Texas landing at YVR 11AM, and on the 3:00 HSB to Nanaimo tomorrow...
Hope it blows over enough by afternoon that the 3PM doesn’t get cancelled..

On the way back from Squamish today, I noticed the seas in Howe Sound were extremely rough, and as we got closer to Horshoe Bay I saw the Cappy having a tough time rounding the corner into the bay. The waves were breaking over the bow and really shaking her around.

The waves were breaking over the bow and really shaking her around. Sounds similar to what I saw in early October, when I was on my way out to Tsawwassen to catch the Queen of New Westminster with the group. It's that time of year again, and I love it! Did anyone notice the thunder and lightning today? Apparently the lighting was hovering over Squamish this afternoon, and then I could hear it from where I'm staying on Yellow Point around 8:00pm. I guess if anyone is on the Ferries tomorrow, I think your best bet at getting across will be to travel on a Ferry that is based on the opposite end of the Route you are starting from. For instance, I'll be on the 12:30 pm Queen of Oak Bay out of Departure Bay tomorrow. My theory to this, is the crews don't want to be stuck on the wrong side of the pond.

Oh my goodness! That was a monster storm! When I listened to the WX Radio after getting up this morning, it said that Chrome Island had experienced wind gusts of at least 99 knots.

Not so much a storm tonight, just a little bit of snow in a few places.. but enough to turn the evening rush into a massive headache. My brother-in-law was on the 5:00 from Nanaimo to HBy and it was announced on the ferry that there was an accident on the highway so it took him quite a while to get around that. Not exactly sure where it was, but I think it was on the hill up from the terminal and able to be bypassed by going through the village.
Horseshoe Bay still looks trecherous on the webcams. Tiretracks visible in the snow outside the terminal. When you think about it, it's a nightmare waiting to happen with hundreds of cars coming off the ferries and having to go up a rather steep hill and merge - if the roads are icy. My dad told me once when he had an old pickup with 5 or 6 gears and he went up that on the lowest gear, past all the cars wiped out.
P.S. Right now Horseshoe Bay's Langdale holding area camera is focusing on the ice near the lens rather than on the terminal:)

Yesturday afternoon It took my dad and I 2 hours to drive from Port Alberni to Parksville, a drive that normally takes just 45 minutes.
We left Downtown Port Alberni at 3:30pm and it was snowing heavily as we got up to the top of the Hump we were slowed to a craw due to a semi Trailer blocking the Highway and a pickup truck in the ditch going down that big hill on the other side. Traffic was fine untill we got to the east side of Cameron Lake then slowed again, cars in the ditch and on the side of the road all over the place. The time was close to 5pm, an hour and a half after leaving Port Alberni, Finally as we reached the Coombs Emporium another traffic line up, a accident near Station Road. We turned around and de-toured to Parksville Via Qualicum. We arrived home at 5:36pm, 2 hours and 4 minutes after leaving Port Alberni.

Cathedral grove must be beautiful in the snow. That is scary because in some sections there isn't even a ditch to end up in. One Christmas I was very stupid and bent on getting to Tofino despite a delayed flight. I barely made the last sailing from TSW to Duke Point and then drove in icy weather over the hump. I really debated staying over in Port Alberni except my room at Long Beach was not cancellable. So I drove the rest of the way. Thankfully had a Ford Explorer and followed a pickup truck that knew every corner and bend on that crazy road. I was relieved but exhausted. The had called the hotel so they knew I was on the road. When I arrived they had some cheese, port and a thermos of decaf coffee waiting for me as congratulations for making it.

Hit number 3 of snow within the past week and a half, for us this morning. We're expecting another 10-20 cms, on top of the 5 cm we recieved back on Monday evening.
What can you do...nothing. Might as well get out and enjoy it.

Lots of snow coming down in Burnaby now. I was checking out the BC Ferries webcams. Funny that Horseshoe Bay looks the best of them all right now. Nanaimo looks like it's being hit pretty hard and Tsawwassen is mostly covered. There seem to be some weather delays on the ferries today too.. but I'm not sure if that for snow or wind - it's getting windy out now too.

We got the tailend of yesterdays storm last night. During the day yesterday, it was just mostly clouded skies. The temperature never got above -3 all day, and there was a pretty strong wind coming from the North. That wind kept me nice and cold all day while on the roof at work.
Today we've woken up to seeing about 6 inches of the fine powder snow with a temp of -6. Nice to have snow without lots of slush, like we were seeing all week last week. More is on the way apparently, I'm watching the next snow line come down the Mountain now. Looking forward to the pineapple express that will move in overnight tonight. I think alot of us will be preparing for some flooding.

We got snow last night in Toronto too. Not sure how much actually fell but because there was a high wind and lots of drifting. Actually got out the snowblower ;P. I only had it out three times last year. If it is going to be winter, there might as well be snow. I haven't put snow tires on my car as it is 4 wheel drive. Maybe this year I should have .

I got cancelled today after our first lunch period. (we are divided in lunch periods based off our 4th period teacher) So I am now sitting in the rain. Flooded streets are all around, roads closed. Plan on staying in the night.
