This month's flagship will be a ferry (past or present) that operates (or operated at one time) in California, Oregon, Washington, BC, or Alaska. Besides the usual rules, an additional rule is that the picture must show the ferry in service along the west coast. Inland ferries in the abovementioned areas are OK as well. (Update 10/05) Because there may be a lot of entries, I'm going to restrict it to 2 entires/person. I may increase this to 3 if there aren't a whole lot of entries (I will post an update if I do this). The nomination process ends at 9:00 on October 30.

How many nominations are we allowed? Is it the usual 3?

How many nominations are we allowed? Is it the usual 3? I didn't give it much thought. I'll restrict it to 2 entries, but may increase it to the usual 3 if there aren't enough entries.

Would that ship in the background be an Orca?

Not only is that an Orca-class training vessel, that is THE Orca, the original of the class.

The theme this month is a tad bit too broad for my liking - anything that floats or once floated on the North American West Coast.... I have decided to narrow the field for me personally by opting not to use any BC Ferry or other BC vessels. Instead I have decided to offer an AMHS vessel photographed in August of this year. For a second submission I offer a Mr. DOT photo from Washington State, taken about 30 years ago. This photo was taken this past August from the Malaspina. We had to wait for her sister, the Matanuska, to clear the berth at Haines. This photo of the 'steel Electric class vessel M/V Illahee was taken in the early 1980's by my brother, Mr. DOT. I am uncertain about the location of the photo - it may be Sidney, BC. Input from others, & especially the photographer, is welcome. Update: According to info from others (see below) this photo was taken at Keystone, Whidbey Island.

If it's Sidney, then what's that little chunk of land on Illahee's port side? Unless that used to be there and has been removed, then it couldn't be Sidney, I don't think.

This month will be a tough month! I'll try and make it harder Here are my two from this past summer: The first one is of the Mayne Queen while we were on an early-September Route 1 evening cruise. Second one is from Horseshoe Bay in late July.

Nominations-period is now over.
I'll wait for Mr. San Mateo to set up the poll, because I'm not sure what his plans are for voting options.
