Here's a video that shows Quinsam's "Nemetz lights" operating in the dawn's early light.
- and it also shows a daylight trip of the Quinsam passing by Jack Point.

Thanks for getting up at such a rude hour to take those, Mr Horn. You're welcome. There were a few downtown early-morning joggers on the waterfront, a few herons and gulls, and the Quinsam. Oh, and 2 visiting yachts from New Zealand. - "Polar Bear" is registered in Auckland, and is a traditional mega yacht. - "Kahu" is an ex navy ship, and is on a world cruise, wintering in the BC south coast area.

I liked the colours and lighting of this Quinsam arrival scene so much, that I decided to make a video of just it. - 6:45-6:50am, on November 23, 2013. --------------- A lovely time to be out enjoying a hobby.

The last piece of my Quinsam overload for today. This is my complete video of my 2.75 hours spent at the waterfront this morning. - most of this is sped-up 100x. I am very happy with the result. - I like the rocket-blast sound at the 9-second mark.

Part-1 of my Quinsam photos from this morning. - the occasion was for me to try some camera settings.
I am happy with the results, and so I'm posting them here:
She's nearing Nanaimo at 6:45am - I'm outside in minus-7 Celsius cold temperature. (I think it is I who needs a service-cutback - starting my Saturday so early) - the reflection of her lights looks like a wake. And the photo shows that the red & green navigation lights are running together (ie. lit on the same trip, just like every in-darkness trip)
Novelty shot of her headed back to Gabriola Island, on her 7:00am sailing. - I like how the various top antennae items are visible about the Gabriola background.
=================
2 shots from similar angles, but showing the difference that the ship's lighting makes on a dawn photo.
First, with plenty of ship lighting turned on
Second, with lights off, ready for her 7:00am departure:

The continuing adventures of "Quinsam Shot at Dawn" - Saturday December 7, 2013. A day that will live in photographic infamy (why exactly, I'm not sure. Maybe it was because I was getting mixed-up in my camera settings. But I was using a Japanese camera) --------------------------- Arriving at Nanaimo: Arriving at 6:50am Ready for her 7:00am trip from Nanaimo harbour[/p]

Jeez man were you not cold at that time of morning with this cold weather? Oh yes, me and my camera were both really cold. I had lots of layers on, and my special Tilley winter-hat (with ear flaps and a forehead flap).

They must of thought who is that crazy guy at this time of morning out there taking photos in this cold lol! You've seen the photos and the video. Were they worth the effort? --------------- (rhetorical question, because of course they were worth it. A cold & crisp morning gives special photographic opportunities)

Big Q, seen between the berth structures at Descanso Bay. -------------- BC Ferries says that this bay is too small for both a ferry and water-taxi to operate from. So on that basis, big ferry company would oppose any local group from trying an alternative service.

I'm not used to photographing Quinsam in daylight. Here she is in perfect evening light, as she approaches Descanso Bay. - seen from Duke Point ferry terminal on June 6, 2014.
