Here's what Quinsam looked like, on a lovely summer morning at Nanaimo. - I was there from 4:55am to 7:15am. I saw 2 round-trips and a fabulous sunrise.

does she look different any other day?? lol! That's your comment, when someone goes to the trouble of composing and sharing a ferry video- on a ferry website- of a vignette that they really enjoyed being a part of?
lol! indeed.

Some more views of the same old ship that we've seen many times before.... Quinsam, shortly into her 6:00am sailing from Nanaimo. August 4, 2014 No sun visible yet... A very small dot of the sun appears More sun... ------- Yes, the sailing had no vehicles, but there were a few walk-ons. Before you "Stone against the System" for this empty sailing, realize that the main users of the early morning sailings are from Gabriola TO Nanaimo. Traffic direction concentration is different during different times of the day.

A couple more of Quinsam shot at dawn. - actually they are after sunrise, but that's close enough to make it pun-legit. ---------------------- Arriving at Nanaimo harbour terminal

I spent a couple of hours at the Nanaimo waterfront, last Sunday evening. A lovely early Autumn evening to enjoy. Here's Quinsam headed for Gabriola Island, lit up by the evening sun. Rads hard at work. -------- ...and an hour later, in dusk lighting With her new on-board cranes installed and ready for action.

Quinsam seen from the south side of Descanso Bay, Gabriola Island. - October 11, 2014 Perhaps the best view of an in-berth ferry at Descanso Bay is found from the window in the men's washroom at the terminal. And here's some porn for Todd Stone. - a full ferry on a Saturday --------- Traffic was heavy because of an "art studio tour" event on Gabriola.

Quinsam is a star in my latest timelapse video. This is shot from Cameron Island walkway, in morning of November 15, 2014.
Lovely clear sky, showing the transition from darkness to dark-blues, and then that ever expanding strip of yellow/orange in the middle.
I also like how darkness impacts our perception of the depth and placement of many lighted objects in the background. When it is very dark, the row of 4 flood-lights at Duke Point industrial area (in the centre background) seem so close.
Regarding the ship, I always love the moment when an approaching ship turns on its "log lights." Those are the set of headlights that make it easy for the bridge crew to see objects in the water near the berth. That light-switch moment is always a favourite of mine. You can see it at the 2:02 mark of my video.

Quinsam looking Q-Lovely in the evening of March 21, 2015. Seen at Descanso Bay: On board the 9:35pm sailing: Bridge with spinning radar For me, night time is the right time for ferry photography. These photos were from my trip back to Nanaimo, after spending the evening at Gabriola's Malaspina Galleries point.

Quinsam headed from Gabriola Island to Nanaimo, on Easter evening of April 5, 2015. Each day, Quinsam departs Gabriola at 5:35pm and Q'Alberni departs at 5:45pm. So this view is an everyday thing. A bit of camouflage

Quinsam arrival/departure movie, from Sept 7, 2015.
Nothing we haven't seen before, except for my attempt at high-frame-rate slow motion, at the 3:55 mark, showing the RAD engaging upon departure. - and to see how my new camera handles the dawn's low light.
I like the results.
