Thanks for sharing those, Darren.
Is the Cy Peck photo at Horseshoe Bay, with the rock wall background ? If so, that would be surprising, as I thought she was a gulf-islands vessel.
....so maybe it's taken against a bluff in Active Pass ?

Cy Peck worked Bowen Island-Horseshoe Bay for a time, I do believe.

I tried to find any information regarding the Cy Peck serving HSB, but could find nothing. What I can tell you, is that the background is definitely NOT Fulford, 100% sure of that as I just returned from Fulford over the holidays. I too think that the geography resembles HSB. Funny that there is no mention of this is any historical notes........
BTW, my "City of Vancouver" model should be on display at the BC Maritime Museum in Victoria around February 2007. Will be going in and getting some shots of it and will post them here........

This post from another thread does indeed link the Cy Peck to Horseshoe Bay, 1962. Recently obtained a batch of brochures on eBay from the early 1960s, including a few old schedules from your neck of the woods: Black Ball - Summer 1961 - Effective March 29: Vancouver - Sechelt Peninsula: Bainbridge, Smokwa Vancouver - Bowen Island: Bainbridge Vancouver - Nanaimo: Chinook II, Kahloke Jervis Inlet - Powell River: Quillayute BCFS, Summer 1962 - Effective May 1: Vancouver - Victoria (Swartz Bay): Chinook II, Kahloke, City of Vancouver, City of Victoria Vancouver - Nanaimo: Sidney, Tsawwassen Vancouver - Sechelt Peninsula: Bainbridge, Smokwa Sechelt Peninsula - Powell River: Quillayute Vancouver - Powell River: Smokwa, Bainbridge Vancouver - Bowen Island: Cy Peck, Smokwa, Bainbridge Vesuvius - Crofton: Geo. S. Pearson Fulford - Swartz Bay: Delta Princess OR Motor Princess (coffee shop on Motor Princess) Outer Islands Service (Salt Spring, Galiano, Mayne, Saturna, dn the Pender Islands): Motor Princess I'm starting to understand why all the vessel photos of the early BC years were shot at Horseshoe... I didn't realize that pretty much the whole fleet showed up sooner or later. ;D The bundle also showed up with two brochures titled "Include British Columbia's New Ferries Vanocuver - Victoria in Your Vacation Plans," touting the new Sidney and Tsawwassen. Makes me miss the days when WSF used to advertise.

Don't know what the final word on the Cy Peck was, but this had to be close... The story has a common Swartz Bay misspelling, and it mentions a surely never-existant Saturna to Pender Island route.

re the Cy Peck newspaper clipping: ============================= Thanks Neil, for that interesting story. I appreciate you keeping that clipping in your archives. The lady mentioned in the early part of the story, "Amy Campbell", has written some historical books about Nanaimo. Her husband is a legendary Nanaimo trumpet player, whom I've had the privilege of playing with. As someone who was living in Nanaimo during 1986, I was unaware of this "tow & dump" maneuver that was done to the Cy Peck. I was likely too busy doing my Grade-12 homework at the time. re the article, it mentions that the ship was named for the son of the chairman of the "Compensation Stabilization Program". While this is true, it was also named for the son of the wife of the chairman of the Compensation Stabilization Program. I suspect that the ferry was actually named in honour of Mr. Cyrus Peck himself, who was a Victoria-Cross winner, and was a Member of Parliament (the house, not the band). Here is a forum-thread of info re Mr. Peck: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=nonBCF&action=display&thread=1163291279

Re the article about the Peck: it mentioned that the final owners were seeking support from BCFC--it always amazes me when people such as they that acquire old ferries from someone expect some form of support from its former owners, like Steven Rodrigues does from WSF about the Kalakala. Don't they understand that the former owners (a) don't own it anymore and it isn't their problem and (b) the former owners disposed of it because of the high finances versus rate of return?
On the other hand... as a plaque hanging in the office aboard the Kalakala said: Anyone who buys a boat deserves it.

Apparently, according to crew, the ' Tsawwassen has had "steering pannel" damage recently, with leaking consequences in massive volumes.

Nice, the Cy Peck spent it's final days in Gowlland Harbour on Quadra Island. I remember seeing it down there in the early 90's. I think it sunk there but was salvaged.

She sunk at Fanny Bay near the Buckley Bay ferry terminal.

when she was retired in 1966 she was sold to J.H.Todd and Sons for a floating sales and purchasing shop for fishermen. In 1975 I believe she was taken over by J.W. Russel, Ganges, B.C. In 1978 the pictures below show she sank while anchored off Fanny Bay, B.C. Near Nanaimo. I believe that some of her superstructure has been salavaged.

No, the ship currently anchored off Fanny Bay is not the Cy Pecker. The rusty ship currently anchored might be a chinese migrant ship, that did some illegal immigration a few years ago.

The ship currently beached off Fanny Bay is called the Brico, it's a restaurant.

Didn't the Cy Peck end her days in Nanaimo harbour at a Chevron facility, where she was allowed to sink (again)? This would have been, oh, about 10 years ago, mid 90's
