In that first picture, why are there so many Union Jacks hanging over the wharf? Is there some kind of ceremony? I think that it might be the 1st day of service for the car-ferry at Fulford. ie "first day ever".

I have scanned another from the DOT collection. It originates from the BC Dept of Travel Industry, circa 1962, shortly after the Gulf Islands ferry company became part of BC Ferries. MV Cy Peck - Howe Sound ??

:)well the Cy Peck's wheel was certainly less intimidating than that of Motor Princess! I remember well my one day working Pender Queen\Motor Princess, and the all wood car deck, and that oversize wheel, with a chain drive down below decks, that resembled an oversize bycicle chain! But the roll on roll off design of 1923 was quite advanced, and CPR never realized it! It took Capt. Peabody to seize the route ahead! :)mrdot.

This time of year has me thinking of Cy Peck VC, the man. But here are 2 photos of the ferry which was renamed for him. - from an old-schedule display in Mouat's mall in Ganges - from a display in the lounge of the Howe Sound Queen (yes, a year-2000 BCFC item is included in a current display on a BCFS ship.)

M/V Cy Peck - circa 1962 - Howe Sound (not sure)
Note: This is placed here to replace an earlier version of this photo now 'fuzzed out' by 'photo crap bucket'

Is that Bowen in the background? When Bainbridge wasn't on the run around that time, it was usually Cy Peck.

I have small little paper prints of some photos my Grandpa took in 63' of the Cy Peck at Lyall Harbor, there to small to be scanned and uploaded so once I finally find the film negatives for the photos I will upload them, it will be a while before I find them as my grandparents have a ton of old stuff piled up so.

If it was the Cy Peck at Ganges harbour, it is no longer there and has been replaced
