October 1972 photo of the Salt Spring Queen off of Swartz Bay. photo from JST slide collectionPhoto was taken through glass from inside another ferry. Marks on picture are caused by reflections on that glass.

Hi all, who likes the Saltspring Queen, any photos are accepted to be attached to your messages, and we can also talk about the other retired ferries, and the ones to be retired soon. Good posts please. Quinsam

Nice looking boats, but the design is obsolete. The new boats will be based on a modified Skeena Queen design. Of course the engine troubles should be fixed.
Back on subject - It's cool how they were sister boats but were built in different parts of BC and never operated together until they joined BC Ferries. Kind of like having the Oak Bay built in Washington and operated down there and the Surrey being built in Vancouver and staying where she is.

Kind of like having the Oak Bay built in Washington and operated down there and the Surrey being built in Vancouver and staying where she is. They were not sisters. There was a lot of modifications done to one ( I cannot remember which) to make it look like the other. The modified ship looked more like the Kwuna than the "sister".

What he means is almost Identical boats, like Quinsam/Quinitsa

we'll call them 'relative' sisters. Pardon the pun.
I've seen pics of the Lloyd Jones from when she was in Kelowna and it looked like the latest version. I forget which one the Lloyd Jones became. The other one was the Delta Queen or Delta Princess or something like that. So the Delta one must've been the modified one.

Where does Quinitsa run? Where did Salty Queen (what ever it is) run?

The Quinitsa runs from Fanny Bay to Denman Island. Fanny Bay is just north of Qualicum Beach. The Saltspring Queen went to Saltspring Island from Swartz Bay I believe.

Fanny Bay? dontcha mean Buckley Bay?

I think it is Fanny bay, because I went up to Courtenay once and stopped at a gas station in Fanny bay, then saw a ferry like Quinsam come into the dock behind it.
