This thread can just slowly fade away.... So it's going to get deleted? And one quick thing, I have no idea how to make a signature good enough.

It was a really nice day on Sunday, bright and sunny with the Spokane Delayed 1 hour because of a car broke down in Kingston
Be sure to skip to 2:00 to hear the Spokane's horn, and 3:16 to hear the Walla Walla's horn

So does anyone know the real reason WSF got rid of the metal gates on the front of the ferries like Jumbos, Supers, Issaquah classes? They took them of and went to chains, and now days they use nylon nets. I would just think the gates would easier and not need replacing near as often as the nets. What do you mean by "Gates?"

The Jumbo's, JMII's, and Olympic's are the best, the Issaquah's andd the KDT's have to be the worst single tone The Issaquah-class Kahlenberg whistles are susceptible to moisture and lack of use, which gives them that "crushed duck" sound. If they're used regularly, they're not bad.
The Jumbo Mark IIs vary widely from boat to boat; there are two or three different sounds from what I recall (though it's been a while since I've heard/listened to them).
Love the Jumbo Mark I whistles. The Olympic whistles are good too, but the air mechanism doesn't allow for anything other than sharp on/off. (If you catch anything other than that, the air supply has something going on with it.)
The Evergreen State's whistle has a distinctly bovine quality to it. That and the air supply couldn't quite keep up, so it started off strong in volume but tapered off if you held it for a while. Made it very easy to ID in the fog. I have not heard the Wenatchee's horn much, but the other JMII's and the Jumbos many times

The end no.1 horn has never gotton replaced, the End 2 horn got replaced in 2015 Really? End #2 sounds like the original whistles on the Tacoma. I would think end #1 (which sounds more like the Mark I's) has had it's higher note replaced. The original whistles for the JM2s were a full octave apart, and I'm very sorry I didn't get recordings of them back in 1997-99 when they were new and in tune with themselves. Several of the whistles have at least had the higher note replaced. Well inside the whistles there is a diaphragm, which vibrates when air is sent through it, but if the diaphragm is screwed in tight, then it will make a sharper sound, or the diaphragm could be cracked.

I guess I could have made it a little shorter, The deeper ones are older and the higher ones are newer So on Puyallup End 1 is older than End 2? If that’s the case then these horns age well. If End 2 is older then I’d say in my personal opinion the horns do not age well. The end no.1 horn has never gotton replaced, the End 2 horn got replaced in 2015

They are the same horns(Kahlenberg). I got told with the Puyallups horn, one is older than the other, so I am assuming that it is the same with this boat So it sounds to me like as the horns age the pitch goes up? I say that because the End 2 on Tacoma/ End 1 on Puyallup sound more like the Olympics and the Olympics obviously have new horns. The lower pitched also sound more tuned. But I could be completely wrong. Is there any way to know? I guess I could have made it a little shorter, The deeper ones are older and the higher ones are newer

Here is a video of the Tacoma's horn, all of them are End no.1 and the last one was End no.2 What causes the difference between End 1 and End 2? I definitely prefer End 2, but I have never noticed that stark difference. We’re different trumpets installed on each end? Or did they come out different accidentally? What would be the reason for having 2 different whistles? They are the same horns(Kahlenberg). I got told with the Puyallups horn, one is older than the other, so I am assuming that it is the same with this boat

Why is the Tacoma's name board like this It is on the outside of the ship so that people from shore and from other ships can see it, especially while loading onto the ship. And it has letters so that the ship's name can be read. ...Spokanzinga ! Oh I know that part, lol, i should have Specified myself, It looks kind of faided

I personally think the Spokane's horn is the worst in the whole WSF Fleet, which is funny because the Walla Walla has such a nice sounding horn To each their own. I’ve always loved the Jumbos. The Issaquah class and the KDTs are pretty awful IMO. Personal opinion though. Walla Walla is the best though. The Mark II and Olympic classes also have great whistles. The Jumbo's, JMII's, and Olympic's are the best, the Issaquah's and the KDT's have to be the worst single tone

Seeing the Northern Expedition(looks like a Cruise Ship) next to Burnaby is hilarious, I never realized how BIG/small they were, LOL The NorEx is indeed a much larger vessel, but you need to keep in mind that the auto & passenger capacity of the Burnaby was actually greater. Oh, That is something that i did not know
