Do the coastal class boats have a secondary horn? I noticed this rare sounding sort of double almost triple horn on one of these vessels a few months ago? Is this a feature these vessels have that I was not aware of? Here is the link to one of my videos which, I have set up to start playing right around where this bizzare horn is in the video. I've seen your video before, I assumed that it was the Queen of New Westminster since the QoNW was departing in the clip prior to that. Sounds a lot like the new west to me. It sounds like one end sounded its whistle then the other end also sounded its whistle, and the lowest tone cuts out after a second or two. Definitely not the New Westminster, though the two higher tones do sound similar… I also have no idea why they’d sound both ends?

For a telephoto, I’d look for a 70-200 f/4 or a 70-300. The F/4 will give you better light and is sharper but the 300 has that extra reach. A really good jack of all trades is the 24-105 f/4, it’s decently sharp and has such a large range!
Look for used lenses, you’ll get good quality used glass for so much cheaper than brand new. Sigma and Tamron also make good quality lenses, maybe not to the same extent as a Canon L lens but unless you’re shooting professionally, who cares…

May I ask.. what would the odds of them sinking be? I don’t think anyone in this thread is really capable of speaking to the odds of those vessels sinking… Those vessels are half way around the world, why make wild speculation?

I wish BC Ferries would keep the whistles in tune, even after refits whistles often are not yet fixed. I emailed a representative a couple years back about this, as long as it still works as a signalling device, they don’t really care to prioritize them… which is unfortunate. Why have the tri - tone airchimes on their ships if they aren’t going to be maintained?

Is the new west still sounding only two horns? I figured they would have fixed that in the refit. As of Christmas, yes.

I'm also imagining no countries; it isn't hard to do. I can imagine no possessions; I wonder if you can? A bunch of dreamers, obviously not the only ones…

Do you have link for a Island Gwawis That sound the horn before departure the dock. A whistle sounding? There's a video of an Island class somewhere on YouTube.

I hope this isn't too recent for this thread, but this is pre-2003 Queen of New Westminster @ Duke Point. Photo by me. The New West made it work with the expo scheme. I think it's a bit odd they added it out of no where as it isn't really standard anywhere else with the fleet, but it's a minute change. If they moved the hull's stripe down it would be more fluid but that (most likely) won't happen...

I’m on Mayne at the moment and I found it funny that the Inspiration wasn’t going through Active Pass… she’s going all the way around Saturna (she’s been a single ender this entire weekend and they finally fixed her rudder)! Has a Route One vessel ever taken that detour?

On the Queen of Cumberland last night! Thanks for this set of photos. I love this type of long-exposure photography I love long exposures too! The Cumberland’s bridge just was perfect for me! Believe it or not, this was shot on an iPhone!

I think the Inspiration is acting like a single ended vessel today, she switched ends in Swartz Bay before docking… why?

This photo shows very clearly how much the V-class funnels were modified at the time the vessels were 'lifted' in the early 1970's. That 'ridge' is the boundary between the original funnel height and the extended part above. The lifting of the funnels was done, I gather, to help keep exhaust from drifting down onto people enjoying the aft part of the outer decks. Not that aesthetics are really of interest for BCF, but personally, I think the raised finely looks quite a lot better than the original height!

BC Ferries now classified Queen of New Westminster as V-Class vessel now. Can you cite where they did this?

Queen new Westminster I was supposed to go in for a major refill this October and won’t really be returning until next year. According to the captain of the new Westminster. Her life will be extended between 2028-2030. Do you mean extended till 2028 - 2030?

Queen of Alberni horn at Horseshoe Bay today
i'm no expert on ferry horns but that did not sound right! I think they just pulled the handle a little slower, sounds like the Alberni normally does, with a Db minor at the end.

Summer Whistles Dump! The New West in my opinion sounds better than the Nanaimo did, very cheery and in tune! Also, I heard the Seaspan vessels sounding their whistles, it sounds like just a KM250 equivalent. They were not consistent with their soundings. I also have never heard myself the crew using the pullcord at Tsawassen before this…

Coastal Celebration has her snack bar opened. Do any other vessel have there snack bar open? The New West had hers when I was last on about two weeks ago.

Here's the New West sounding the best she has in a while! I'll have another video at the end of the summer with more soundings. The Celebration's Swartz Bay end isn't sounding her middle trumpet and it sounds quite bad...
