Hello, does anyone have knowledge about Canon’s 6D camera? I try to record a video for 20 seconds and it will just cut out and say video has been automatically stopped. I know that the SD card is high quality so I don’t know why it would just cut out. Please PM me I f you can

I’m on the SOBC right now and I’ve noticed two things so far that have changed from my last trip two years ago. The seats now have a cloth front look and the children’s play area seems to just be a small room with a tv playing kids shows...but the WiFi is as unreliable as ever! I have more to come and many photos to post in a couple days.

According to a friend of mine who recently visited the bridge of the SOBC, he was told that the new Whistles are not to be used unless it is an emergency. The captain told him that Transport Canada has asked BC Ferries not to use the whistle as it is extremely loud. Are they really that much louder than the Coastal Classes whistles? If they’re that loud then what was the point of the SOBC getting retrofitted with those whistles? It also makes me wonder why BCFerries didn’t just get the same whistle set as the Coastal Class, and why the different chord? It doesn’t really sound like BCFerries past vessels. This is all very weird, at least for me 🤔

Exciting times are to come ahead! I never use the ferries ever except for once or twice during the summer so I should have some whistle recordings up soon! For some it’s their commute but for me it’s always exciting to go on the ferries, it’s a joyful experience!

That's strange, how come the light covers for the forward lounge windows aren't put on. It was 10:36 at night, also, am I allowed to quote someone's photo like this without permission?

Looks like the Salish Orca is having some engine issues... BC Ferries Status Update - Comox to Powell River Cancellations and Queen of Cumberland Return to Service May 18 Updated May 13 at 11:55 am Update for May 13 Powell River to Comox Sailing Cancellations: We have had mechanical problems with the Salish Orca this morning that have caused the cancellation of sailings from 9:55 am this morning from Comox through to the 5:15 pm sailing from Powell River this evening. Our team is trying to locate a replacement motor which is proving to be challenging. Once the part is found and delivered to Comox it is expected that the repair will take approximately an hour and a half. Options for alternate travel are through Departure Bay (Nanaimo) to Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver) and then on to Langdale (Sunshine Coast) and then through Earls Cove to Saltery Bay. Traffic is expected to be quite busy throughout our system today. Powell River customers with medical appointments Monday, May 14th may want to consider travelling this evening to ensure they are able to make their appointment. While the team is working hard to find a replacement part to have the ship back in service for the last round trip tonight, we would rather err on the side of caution and ensure customers can plan for the potential of the ship being out of service tomorrow morning. We will provide an update this afternoon after 4 pm about our progress and whether we need to cancel the last round trip this evening. Please continue to check this page and our Service Notices for updates. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience these cancellations will cause. From www.bcferries.com/static/print/schedules/travel-advisory.htmlThat seems pretty serious, it says they're looking for a replacement motor, I wonder how severe this is?

Also I inspected two images of the SOBC and it definitely looks like she has 3 new whistle trumpets, along with her dull fog horn! I can't wait to have her back in BC and go on a voyage!

I was just looking through my computer and I saw this old recording of the Queen of Nanaimo's whistle. I did a couple of years ago (I apologies for the shakiness). The three astern blasts kind of reminded me of those horn sounds they have on CKNW radio station. Also, can we all have a status update on the Queen's whistles please?

I finally got a camera! Well actually I'm borrowing it from my grandpa but he never uses it and he said just take it and be careful! It is a Nikon Coolpix P510 with 16 Megapixels, and it takes so much clearer photos than my iPhone 5c. I still like my iPhone for just anywhere and it got me into photography but still YES!!! Here are a few of my best shots with it (they aren't great but it was fun trying to take them) DSCN0657 by Charlie.Toth, on Flickr DSCN0666 by Charlie.Toth, on Flickr DSCN0670 by Charlie.Toth, on Flickr DSCN0672 by Charlie.Toth, on Flickr

I've been thinking about that article for a bit of time now and George Goundar used to work with BCFerries and wouldn't he know how to properly load them with normal amounts of passengers and when the boat is full?

Here's the latest news article on the Nanaimo Port authorities point finger on ship owners for cause of delays Passengers complain of overcrowding in ships and at port Many were left stranded at Port Mua-i-Walu in Suva Improper scheduling and irresponsibility by local ship operators have been blamed by the authorities for the delays that left hundreds of passengers waiting overnight on Friday at Port Mua-i-Walu, Walu Bay, in Suva. Thousands of passengers travel to Vanua Levu and the maritime islands by ship during the Christmas season every year. Fiji Ports Corporation chief executive officer Vajira Piyasena said: “Boat operators were not keeping up to schedules and most of them had overloaded their vessels. “This (problem) was entirely created by those people (boat owners) and has nothing to do with Fiji Ports. When you have a boat owner who has issued tickets more than they can carry, it is not our problem.” On Friday, the Goundar Shipping Limited’s Lomaiviti Princess V trip to Vanua Levu and Taveuni was delayed by eight hours. It was scheduled to leave Suva at 6pm bound for Savusavu and Taveuni, but it did not depart until 2am the next day, a passenger, on condition of anonymity, told Fiji Sun. In an earlier telephone interview with Goundar Shipping Limited’s managing director, George Goundar, he had said shipping owners were always blamed for overcrowding, but were not at fault when non-ticketholders were allowed into the wharf area. He also said, while inside the ship trying to calm things down, that at least 30 per cent of the people at the jetty were not passengers. Mr Goundar runs the biggest interisland ferry business with his five Lomaiviti Princess vessels. But other operators also use Port Mua-i-Walu. The passenger who spoke to Fiji Sun also said many passengers who had boarded Lomaiviti Princess V early on Friday were sitting along the corridors of the vessel. This is common on such vessels where people buy seats but then lie in the corridors to sleep. Mr Goundar had said Lomaiviti Princess V had the capacity to carry 1100 passengers, and 800 had purchased tickets for that particular journey. Yesterday, more questions sent to Mr Goundar remained unanswered. Another passenger, who was denied entry to board Lomaiviti Princess I, said six ships departed at around the same time on Friday. He said ticket-holders scheduled to board Lomaiviti Princess I, travelling to Kavala in Kadavu, were denied entry after the vessel went outside its schedule. Lomaiviti Princess I also had a large number of passengers travelling to Vunisea and it is believed this forced the ship owner to postpone the journey to Kavala by one day. Another passenger, who also asked to be kept anonymous, said his first time travelling on the new Lomaiviti Princess V would most likely be his last. “This is the worst boat experience I’ve ever had,” the passenger said. “We’ve been standing in the rain for nearly two hours and I just feel sorry for the hundreds of people still behind us.” Others who spoke to Fiji Sun also mentioned about passengers hurling abuse at the ship’s staff members as tension began to rise amid deteriorating weather conditions while the wait continued deep into the night. They also said children were heard crying. The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) chief executive officer, John Tunidau, said yesterday their enforcement officers were trying to control the crowd in the docking area with Police. Last month, MSAF had said they would closely monitor passenger ships during the festive season. In a statement, the authority had warned ship owners to follow the Maritime Legislations or face criminal charges under the Maritime Transport Act 2013. Goundar Shipping had invested $2.5 million on the Lomaiviti Princess V in November. But most of the passengers travelling on it buy the cheaper seats rather than cabins or first class seating. Do you think the visors will be removed permanently or is it just for the refit?

What ever happened to the Nanaimo's whistle? I know it went to long harbour but has anything happened with it yet?

Smoking should definitely be gone, I remember riding the Nanaimo through active pass on a lovely day but it was immediately ruined by the smell of smoke. I get that some people have addictions to smoking but the ferries are a public space with lots of people and their experience shouldn't be ruined by the odour of smoke.
As for lower deck I have a dog and she hates the ferries and gets anxiety and starts to cause havoc in our car so when she comes along for a trip my parents will take "shifts" with her. If that was banned it would make life a bit more annoying and she hates being around unknown dogs so I'm on the fence but I personally lean towards letting people stay on the lower decks.
