The other fact is that they would have to build at least two of them so they can have a boat there for maintance.

According to WSF's long range plan, that run is only getting one of the new boats.

No other WSF vessel has pods, so why use them when a standard rudder and prop will work? By not using them it keeps maintenance costs down, and the vessels all interchange. Plus it is an unproven technology to WSF.

If any of you are in the Seattle area you can see the Bartlett from the Ballard bridge. Been sitting in the ship canal for as long as I can remember.

You can see her side door in the second pic. I didn't know the Columbia had an upper car deck. I didn't get a good look inside her because of all the signs saying you are subject to search when entering the terminal. Since I was taking pictures I didn't want to tempt fate.

WSF has to provide an emergency boat for Pierce County with the Christine Anderson on the PT-Keystone route, so the Hiyu must be going there.

With the Steel Electrics out, they don't have any spare boats right now. They might have to press her into service if they have a breakdown. The Sealth and Hyak are the only other two boats that are extra, and they are both getting maintanence right now.

Make PT-Keystone a one boat route again, that is all they have. Either that or ditch the inter-island run.

WSF news release says they will try to get her back by Wednesday, the 13th. The Chelan will go back to Vashon on Monday, and the Snohomish will be the second boat out of Bremerton.

While I do believe the Hyak should be saved, money would be better spent on new boats rather than refurbing her interior.

The bulletin from this morning did mention a drive motor problem, they pulled it when she went back into service. Looks like they got her running in a hour, as she is a hour late all day.

I am guessing that with the Kaleetan was just coming out of refit, it was easier to put the Kaleetan on the Bremerton run rather than swapping it with the Hyak.

If the Tacoma really comes back on Monday, WSF should be able to put the Puyallup back on Edmonds/Kingston until the Hyak gets fixed. Glad I did my round trip last week.

WSF ran two Jumbos on the Bremerton run when they closed the bridge last year, I think the Kitsap moved to the Kingston run.

Actually, they are going to keep the Hyak for another few years. WSF originally wanted five boats but cut it down to four due to increased costs. The fifth boat would gave replaced the Hyak.

Nice timing with the Seahawks game today. A lot of people walk on the ferry and go to the game. Quest Field isn't that far from Colman Dock. The Kaleetan will be a full boat heading to Seattle this morning.
