If you look at the WSF vessel watch right now, the Yakima is going up the west side of Whidbey Island heading back to Anacortes.

That means that WSF will have extra capacity in the San Juans this summer for the domestic routes. The Chelan replaces the Elwha, but the Hyak replaces the Chelan.

Having the Kitsap doing the San Juans makes more sense than the Evergreen State. They will lose capacity on the Vashon run with the Evergreen State there, but they need the capacity more in the San Juans during the summer.

So which boats will be in the San Juans this summer?

Why give her the Jumbo's engines? Cheaper than rebuilding the ones already in the Hyak? I would assume they gave the Jumbos new engines to make them last another 20 years.

I think the Kalakala is one of the most beautiful ferries ever built.

For a 6-7 sailing wait, why wait and not just drive around?

They converted the Victoria to a ocean going bow, albet not for very long.

Just remember with these vessel placements, plans can change. They will see how it will run this summer than make changes. Look at the "old brochure" post in the photo section with plans from the 90's. The third boat on Route 30 didn't last long.

My guess would be whether she gets drydocked or not.

They have an extra K-Class vessel with the Kuper in service, and they should be getting the Albon Ferries once the new bridge opens up. So why not put a new boat on the route? The Mill Bay is getting pretty old.

I haven't been on the Alberni in a long time, but I believe that she has over 2x the truck capacity as the Coq. The entire bottom deck can be used for trucks as she doesn't have the galley decks the Coq has. So instead of just having cars in the middle, you can put them in the middle and outside lanes. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It seems the car capacity is OK, but I see commercial sailing waits every weekday. Both Route 2 and Route 30 have almost two sailing waits today. This will improve with the Alberni back, but the commercial traffic is outpacing BC Ferries.

Does anyone here actually have the fuel charts on how much the Cap and Cumbie burn fuel vs say the Quinsam?

I don't think two boat service on the Bowen route would work. There would be too many traffic conflicts at Horseshoe Bay.

The union had to file an appeal, do you see any circumstances where they wouldn't have?

She looks really nice with a new paint job. See the Circlepac Photo post for a pic.

Had to be less than four hours as she was a Ro-Ro. The four hour turn-around won't hurt her as much on the Summer Schedule when she only does one trip per day. Hurts more in the winter when she is making back to back runs.

The SOBC is back in service tomorrow I believe. Then the Esquimalt takes over for the Coq.

That would have been cool to be on the west side of San Juan Island and see the SOBC go by.
