The Skeena also did a round trip to Otter Bay after her last Fulford sailing as sailings were full to the Gulf Islands for the last two sailings! Cumberland was over an hour behind as she was leaving Saturna at like 11:30pm last night! Busy and late night for some of the crews out there! I have also never seen the 11:05pm from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo almost full! That sailing is usually empty!

The numerous WSF trips I have done even on the Coho too I noticed how fast they dock unload and load! BC Ferries seems really slow compared to WSF!

So apparently the Celebrity Infinity hit the dock this morning in Ketchikan in high winds while trying to dock resulting in some damage to the ship and the dock. This is a video someone took! She is one of my favorite ships as I had the best cruise on this ship back in 2010 through the Panama Canal. I dont know her current position as she is suppose to be underway by now but seascanner shows her still in Ketchikan.
One news item I found on this
The Celebrity cruise ship Infinity hit Ketchikan’s Berth 3 dock this afternoon, damaging the ship and dock. Harbormaster Steve Corporon said Berth 3 sustained $2 million to $3 million in damage. That includes the barge that acts as a dock and two of the three mooring dolphins. Corporon said the dock will not be usable until it’s repaired, which could take at least a month. He said he’ll have a better idea after an engineer’s inspection this weekend. The Infinity was moved to Berth 2. There’s no word yet about the amount of damage. The Coast Guard will determine whether it’s safe to sail. The visible damage was above the waterline and the ship did not appear to be taking on water or listing. Witnesses and Corporon said they saw no indication of injuries. Longshoreman and others on the dock were able to get off before the ship struck.

A few weeks ago on the Burnaby I did the 6:50pm Saturday night schedule which did take 90 mins arriving at 8:20pm so that it does not conflict with the NIP departing at 8:15pm! The sailings in the morning the next day were about 80 mins though!

I think they are probably doing last min maintenance on the SOBC before the summer season. I noticed this yesterday too was the first day. They did that a few weeks ago on the SOVI that is the only thing I can think of. There are numerous extra sailings tommorrow with the Celebration and New West so the C Cel has to be back tomorrow which means the SOBC will be back. I believe when the SOVI was out she was replaced by the Renaissance which was odd for the Rennie to be number 1 out of Swartz Bay, but the Renaissance is on route 30 right now replacing the Inspiration which is probably why she is not on route 1 replacing the SOBC. This is the first time I seen the C Cel based out of Tsawwassen too!

It is sold out from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen tonight just after 6:00pm. BC Ferries obviously knows it's Memorial Day weekend in the US but still they dont add any extra sailings in the evening. They are telling people on twitter there is still space available from Nanaimo like they think it's okay to send people on a 2 hour drive to another terminal when they have a boat sitting at Swartz Bay (Celebration) doing nothing. I really think they could of used a 4pm and 6pm and not just the morning early afternoon extra. It is a US holiday but I assume lots of people are up here.

Honestly I think the Columbia is a pretty ugly boat. No lounge? Probably no washrooms either? That's crazy! Especially in the winter when the weather is miserable you have to sit in your car with no heat as I take it they dont want you running your engine, lol! I liked the older boats better but I dont even think they had a lounge either.

Well I have seen on twitter that people have asked about the reservations and they say about 60% they usually take for reservations but looking at sailings out of Duke Point this afternoon most sailings look like 70% or more. Duke Point is a boring terminal to wait at for 5 hours. I would go to Departure Bay if it was less wait time!

She was on a 4 night round trip out of Seattle with stops in Victoria Nanaimo and a day at sea today before returning to Seattle to start the Alaska season. As far as passenger capacity she might be big but the Solstice is actually bigger in length at 1041' the Explorer is 1025' in length!

Is there any reason why the Rennie is replacing the SOVI yesterday and today?? And not the Celebration? She was doing the extra sailings yesterday!

The SOVI and SOBC are running like 15 mins apart! They are both at Tsawwassen now! I really think they should run the Celebration at 7pm from Swartz Bay then tie up the SOVI at 8:35 when she arrives from Tsawwassen otherwise the 9pm won't depart till 11pm and there already is a 2 sail wait from Tsawwassen!

The SOVI was suppose to be back as the #1 boat today out of Swartz Bay. She did her 7am and 9am sailings this morning but then the Celebration took over at 11am which departed an hour late. The SOVI is not running until the following weekend. Anyone know what's up with that??

I also see the Queen of Nanaimo has cancelled her stop at Galiano due to high winds. She will go directly to Mayne Island. Tell me why is it the Nanaimo cancels the Galiano stop yet the Bowen can still sail to Galiano from Swartz Bay?? oh what that sailing would be the Skeena Queen right now. Still a smaller a ship though although I guess the Bowen and Skeena dont have to turn around off Galiano which could have something to do with it!

awesome photos Chris. I really liked your second and third photo especially the close up. That looked like an awesome spot to be and Prospect Point. I really should of went today as it looked like a fun time. Maybe I can get over when she sails down the Fraser into Deas on the 22nd although it looks like that date is weekday so i'll have to see.

I dont know if I have mentioned this before but I have noticed every time I do a route 5 9 1 trip where I take the ferry to Otter Bay and then from Otter Bay to Tsawwassen they issue boarding passes but they never ever collected them. I did a route 5 9 1 trip yesterday and they never even issued a boarding pass just the regular reciept! I think most of the other islands issue boarding passes for Tsawwassen but anyone know why Pender does not?? It would be easy for someone to sneak on. But I think they do have a passenger count.

There is the sailing that arrives at 3:55pm into Village Bay that would better timing but it's not the Mayne Queen!

The afternoon sailing to Pender usually overloads and that is the Bowen on that sailing while to Fulford the Skenna is half full!

you could take the 11am from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay on the Renaissance then take the 2:15pm Mayne Queen on a round trip to Mayne Island and back arriving back at Swartz Bay at 5:10pm although you would just miss the 5pm Renaissance back to Tsawwassen. I know the Gulf Island schedules pretty well so I could probably tell you which ships are on which sailings!

Maybe if BC Ferries updated the Skeena it would be more desirable to travel on! I bet it sucks taking that ship on route 5 right now!

They probably would put a snack bar in one of the lounges! The inland ferry Osprey 2000 is sort of the same design as the Skeena and she has a coffee shop onboard in one of the passenger areas!
