Would it have not made sense to move the Inspiration to route 1 and then move the Coquitlam to route 30 for the day seeing the Surrey is back in service so they can keep the busy Sunday schedule for route 1?? Seeing they are moving the Renaissance to replace the SOBC.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but why is the Raven the only Salish boat the has to refuel Wednesday nights in Swartz Bay??? The Eagle if I am correct never did and same with the Orca so I am just curious as to why the Raven has to.

I assume the Mayne Queen is going for refit. I remember riding the Bowen around this time one year while the Mayne Queen was in refit. It would be awesome if they would switch the Cumberland and run her in place on the Mayne Queen while the Mayne is out then put a Salish on route 5 again. The only comfortable ship they have on route 5 is the Cumberland. Honestly I try to avoid the Mayne Queen at all costs. With route 5 and 5a being multiple ports and sometimes 2+ hours on those boats on some sailings it would really be nice to have food service on the ships even like a limited Cafe serving a few meals would be nice.

If you go to the Drive BC webcams for the Harrop Ferry you can see the new ferry is in service now. I think it has been for a for a while now. They have photos on the Osprey 2000 Snack Bar Facebook page of the Harrop Ferry making it's way to Harrop with the Osprey in view.

According to Drive BC they are saying that it's like a 10 hour wait to cross Kootenay Lake and the Balfour is in shuttle mode. They do not mention if it is running 24 hours like they usually do when the highway is closed but I assume they would be. 28 vehicles is not a lot plus you have tractor trailers that would take up the whole ship pretty much. Not a good day to be taking that ferry. Where does the Osprey go when she goes out for maintenance?? Both sides look pretty congested. This would be a time they could use those old Shelter Bay boats if they were around!

What about docking at Tsawwassen instead?? Wouldn’t that make sense instead of going back to Nanaimo? No delays or cancellation there so it must not be that bad!

The sailing I don’t get is Friday’s when the Mayne Queen sails from Village Bay to Long Harbour then departs Long Harbour at 6pm for Swartz Bay! There is no scheduled sailing from Village Bay to Long Harbour at that time. I’m wondering what the purpose of this is??

where are these boats now?? I never saw them at Shelter Bay last month! Wouldn’t the Galena be a good replacement for the MV Balfour?? I assume she is pretty old that ship! I am thinking of going back in September for some more inland ferry fun!

I just disembarked the SOBC after a round trip today! I like the new interior even though not much has changed! I like the new little lounge on deck 6 it’s nice and quiet at least on my sailings it was! The Arbutus Coffee Place is nice but I don’t like the fact you can’t buy cold fountain drinks there and have to go to the Coastal Cafe for that! I think the Passages Retail Store which they call it now is way too big! Do we really need a big retail store like that onboard? The whole ride is so much more smooth now not a lot of shaking it seems! I’m gonna compare when I take the SOVI back to Swartz Bay tonight!

When I was away on vacation I was in Nelson for two nights! I stayed at the Prestige Inn which is right by the railway tracks! Numerous trains I saw go by! One went by early evening and one went by early morning every morning! The hotel I stayed at actually informs guests of the train at night and they supply earplugs in the rooms but it dident bother me at all! What I’m wondering is where would these trains be going or coming from??? The one I did snap a photo of was a Canadian Pacific and that was around 5:30pm! I don’t know much about trains but was curious to where they would be going?

Tuesday I was on the Osprey 2000 for three round trips. I parked at Balfour which was no problem parking along the fence by the holding compound. I walked on the 11:30am sailing and a few other people were walking on too for a round trip. I returned to Balfour stayed on the boat for a second round trip which was the 1:10pm sailing which was awesome I love that it's free and you could just ride back and forth all day. I did the second round trip then disembarked after arriving back at 2:35pm. What I found interesting about these trips is that they let foot passengers on before the cars were even offloaded from the previous sailing. Very different than BC Ferries that's for sure. After that I headed down to the Harrop Ferry did 5 round trips on that boat. Yes I said 5 round trips I was on the boat for 1hr and that was really fun just going back and forth and no one seemed to care at all. After that I made my way back to Balfour and did one more early evening round trip. Did the 6:10pm round trip. Most sailings were not full. The Osprey I will still say is so much nicer than the Skeena Queen she even has that Coffee Shop which seems to be run by some young girls. It is only open certain hours so after 6:30pm it's closed. All in all some fun inland ferry trips this week. Now time to head home. There are photos on Facebook.

I am currently in Kelowna heading home today. Monday I was on the Columbia from Shelter Bay to Galena Bay and Wednesday I came back from Galena Bay to Shelter Bay. I must say I prefer Shelter Bay is more scenic to me than Galena Bay. But the route beautiful little 20 mins crossing. I actually wished it was longer. On my way over I was actually the last car on the boat and coming back I managed to the first on the boat. I knew she had no passenger lounge but I was surprised that she actually had washrooms on board. The sailings I took were not full. I believe it was the 1pm sailing I took from Shelter Bay then coming back on the Wednesday it was the 3:30pm sailing. It was calm when I arrived at Galena Bay on the way back but on the boat the lake winds picked up and it looked a bit choppy. Not very good time do a round trip with no inside lounge. On my way back I pulled off at the rest area at Shelter Bay despite the rain and watched her load and sail away. What I thought was interesting was that they hooked some cables up to the dock and they pulled it with the ship. Not sure what they were doing but they obviously needed to move the dock a bit. First time on the new ship. I have photos but on my Facebook page.

I am curious to know the route she takes into Long Harbor. Does anyone know?? The Nanaimo is single ended so I know she swings into the berth then reverses but the Orca being double ended how would she dock there?? Would she go in and out both the outbound way??

So the SOBC was in Esquimalt until today she is headed back to Tsawwassen. Is probably there by now. The SOVI was entering the drydock sometime this afternoon I saw on Siitech. That means they would of passed somewhere off Victoria??? That would of been neat to see. The SOBC takes over Friday as the extra route 1 ship based out of Tsawwassen.

Tell me why route 2 was cancelled?? And yet it was blowing at Tsawwassen and they still ran out of that terminal. The New West left Duke Point at 6:08pm and I saw her arrive at Tsawwassen as I was on the 9pm she arrived at 9:08 which was a 3 hour sailing from Duke Point. She tied up after that and the Inspiration used berth 5 for her last sailing as the SOBC was about 30 mins behind too.

Interestingly enough I have been talking with a girl who actually knows Colin when he worked on the Queen of the North. She knew from when she lived in Port Hardy. Interesting the people you meet.

I was on the Burnaby Friday night for a round trip and it was pretty quiet! The 8:45pm return sailing from Powell River I counted 6 cars and probably less than 30 passengers and that was a Friday night but I guess the long weekend already started so that could be why it was pretty empty!

She is replacing the SOBC starting tomorrow. Not sure how long she is on the route for but I am sure route 1 travelers will not be looking forward to having that ship on route 1 again. I know I wont be.

Not really sure where to put this but does anyone know where the Brotchie (Sea) Navigational Beacon is??? When it says on the Pacific Pilotage page a certain time is that the time from that location to for example Ogden Point?? For like a cruise ship arriving? I know when the Wave Venture departed to Royal Roads Anchor as she does every weekend she left at 11:30am which is the time it said on the site.

I have seen cars back on the Chelan and Elwha at Sidney. I would assume it's the vehicles that are bound for Friday Harbour when they make that particular stop on the way from Sidney!
