Yup -- Brinkmann Bay to Departure Bay is Rte14; Brinkmann Bay to Duke Point is Rte14b, and Brinkmann Bay to Victoria is Rte14a. Uh, no. Brinkmann Bay to Duke Point is Route 15, and Brinkmann Bay to Swartz Bay is Route 16. ;D BTW, I hope each of the Super C's will get one of these plaques on each of their ends: www.flickr.com/photos/mytravelphotos/412220565/in/pool-bcferries/Ahh yes, our provincial coat of arms; these have been disapearing from many ferries....

When a Coastal Class ferry is put on the Tsawwassen Sydney corridor, it will probably be the first double ended ferry to operate this route. You are correct. That would be true for both "Sydney" cities, either in Australia or in Nova Scotia. The Tsawwassen to Cape-Breton route could go through the Panama Canal, or could involve a series of overland portages. The Tsawwassen to New South Wales route would encounter plenty of open-water. (and the "George Morfitt Safety Revue" is coming to a theatre near you, this summer. Plenty of song & dance expected.) ---------------------- To YVR: No offense or malice intended by my smart-ass reply.....I intend it all in good fun, and I hope you take it that way. I live in a large, glass house. ---------------------------- Now, the serious reply, re the Route-1 (Tsawwassen to Swartz), and whether any double-ended ferries have sailed it: Q-Alberni was a double-ender on this route....and yes that included the grounding on Collinson Reef. Oak-Bay also sailed that route, without incident.....if my memory of "Wet Coast Kid's" posts serves me correctly. I was on the Cumbie in 1992 and Queen of Surrey was following us into Swartz Bay. Also, for the summers of '86-'89, Queen of Coquitlam was based at Swartz Bay. ps: Queen of Cowichan started her life here too in 1976.

I think that there is plenty of clearance between the rudder and the prop. If a log meets another solid object it tends to rub along-side. I'm sure that the crews check out the debris field to keep all the sCrap out of the berth.

The original dock in Sidney was located at the foot of Beacon Ave. The cars waiting to board the ferry would line-up the centre of Beacon. Some of the pilings form the Government wharf today. The terminal where we know it today was opened in 1955. I think WCK has a pic of the Sidney making docking trials in 1959 while Swartz Bay was still under construction.

I have always liked the Queen of Oak Bay, BC ferries C class to me feels like what the Jumbo Mark II's should have been like. I really like this one; good job...

That's Chinnook jargon for what I do not know maybe someone else has the right answer on this board. Klahowya means "Greetings." Thanks, Evergreenfleet!

Yikes! That stern tube on the Quinault looks like swiss cheese; I guess it's fair enough to say that the other three Steel-E's hulls are in the same advanced corrosion too. Rust never sleeps.

Maybe somebody should point out the fact that WSF is technically part of the highway, as they do link some highways. You should be so lucky, on this side of the border the governing Liberals refuse to agree with this theory. The highway ends when the land does.

Were the old engines on the Coho direct-reversing like on the Olympic?

The crews vehicles were parked along the outside lane of the MCD maybe they were to take a later sailing to Nanaimo to get their cars back to the island. That is, if the CR was spending the night at Tsawwassen.
