This is a little ferry that, in many ways is a little sister to the Kulshan. although they never sailed together they both were built in the same place and oddly enough are both on the East Coast now days. She was Retired this last year, and as I understand it is now up for-sale. 11,832

So the first 2 drawing are the same boat just before and after her chop-shop make over. Now this is another old Mayport FL Ferry. finding pictures of these old ferries isn't easy but here is one to show along with the drawing. 11,870

That thing is amazing! They sure don't make them like that anymore. It beats the pants off the Quinitsa, Quinsam and Skeena Queen combined IMO. If I was in charge of it, I would've re-built the Kuper like that.

Well I thought I would do something fun here. No this isn't just a creation of my own design, it is really what the Issaquah Class was to have first looked like.. I saw it and felt I had to draw it right away.. Check out Evergreen Fleet's website. 12,018

Hey, Bud! You should try 3D drawing! It would bring your ships to life! I draw with Google's SketchUp. You can see some of my drawings at our thread in the 'forward lounge section': 'Luke's ongoing ferry modeling projects', or something like that

But I'm not saying that your drawings don't look good. They're great!!! Actually, if you give me permission, I'd like to base one of my models on your drawings!

Excellent drawings! Just a point here and there. With the BC Highways department, the trianglular mountain logo dates back from the mid 1970s. The "official colour" of the Highways Department back then was white top, black band and construction orange on the bottom, not yellow. It is yellow now though. Vessels were as people saw the Abion ferries, a combination of white, yellow and black for the vehicle deck and fittings on it. All Deaprtment trucks were painted that way from foreman's trucks, equipment, through to Highway Patrol (yes there was a real Highway Patrol back then but was retired in the late 1970's and patrol turned over to the RCMP. ). The vessels had their trademark yellow funnel with no markings on it. There wasn't any lettering on the vehicles other than a grey spot and a fleet serial in Roman type numerics. The white/black/orange colour scheme stayed with the Highways Department until the Maintainance and Construction sections (essentially the old Highways District shops) were sold off. The BC {Flag} logo dates from Spring 1983. It was originally named as "The BC Spirit Flag". The ferries were painted with the Expo logo after 1984. There was a bit of heat from the masses about this so-called "BC Spirit" as it came out just as the worst of the Restraint Programme hit in Spring 1983. That Restraint Programme was the last time BC saw a massive uprising of opposition to the government of the day (well, that will probably change starting next week... ;D) The joke amongst many including Socreds in the party was that when a person saw a ferry "stained" with that BC Spirit Logo, The comment was "another Socred pamphlet floating by". The logo first appeared when the ferries still had their baby blue and white livery with the Dogwood on the funnel, and later they were repainted as refit went through in red/blue striping and the "Expo 86" logo. Never liked those logos on the ferries. But the two slugs are worse. Cool.. Well thank-you for the Heads up about the paint jobs! Didn't know this being as how I am not from there.. I only do what I can see in pics, sometimes they aren't the best. See I liked something I find most people didn't I think the so called "expo colours" were the best for the BC fleet. The look now is just umm ... But that's just me. I also liked the Spirit of BC logo on the Boats I remember when they first started to show up on them in the early 80's. (Oops guess I just showed my age.. Lol) Gave them a Unique feel I think. Unlike so many others (ours) that have a basic paint job the same and nothing else.

Denne er for lmtengs det annet Norsk her over. 12,620 BCF should look into building two new vessels based on the same design (Although about 7.5 meters [24.3 feet] wider.) for the Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands and the Comox-Powell River runs, to replace the Nanaimo and Burnaby (Sorry to say this, but, those two ship are not getting any younger.). They should also consider building a third vessel that can work the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale run in the summer, then fill in for either her twin sisters or any larger vessel during slow travel periods.
