Looks like she will have a single center bulkhead like the Spirits.

I'm very curious about the lack of Pods? Maybe it was just an oversight by the model builder, they could have used past BCF models as a guide? I hope they still recieve them, don't they provide a smoother ride with considerably less vibration?
Thanks for the photos though - they actrually look pretty nice to me, screams "modern." Too bad they recieved the ugliest names, ever.

Maybe we should do something to have the names changed to something simalar but sounds more like a Ferry on this coast.

i think they are too much like a cruise ship, they need to be more like the ships that we have on the coast righ tnow. im sorta partial to them.

Does anyone know if the Super C's will have platform decks? If not then 370 cars will be a marked improvement on the V class which can handle 370 with both platform decks down, but the decks are rarely used.

They probably will have them. A Marked improvement of the V Class? That's what they're replacing so they need to be about the same as the V Class

Do the V's even have platforms anymore? The last pics I saw of the Sannich and Esquimalt's car deck they were gone.

I think the Esquimalt Still has them. The Saanich might not and the Vancouver probably doesn't

The Platforms are still around on the V's, they're just not used anymore, as Transport Canada didn't approve of them, due to their age. So now, they're in the raised position, and sit flush with the ceiling. The Esquimalt is somewhat different to the other V's. When all of her Platform decks are lowered, her lower deck is no longer an overheight deck, as the platform decks can go right across the whole ship. If you look closely at this picture at the ceiling, you can tell where the ceiling turns to platform deck. photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/p29238812.htmlNow, with the B's, the platform decks are still operational, because they're held up by posts. photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/p31448302.htmlThe New West no longer has the Platform decks, as far as I know.

That's why the Esquimalt can hold up to 376 Vehicles. It mentions in the Ships of BC that when the V Class were lifted the Saanich and Esquimalt were meant to carry all underhight and up to 376 cars (Plus that was why they originally had the car deck windows the Vancouver has now) while the Vancouver and Victoria could hold overhight and could hold up to 286 cars

The BCFS officious website currently reports vehicle capacities as follows: Vancouver - 338 (I believe that the Victoria also was listed at 338) Saanich - 360 Esquimalt - 376 New Westminster - 294
When the Vic and Van were first lifted they were not given platform decks, but in order to to carry 338 vehicles they must have had a partial platform deck installed, as presumably the NW carries only 294 as it has no platforms. One of you regulars must know if the Vancouver has platforms today, and if they ever are used.
That brings me to the Saanich. It is reported as having less vehicle capacity then the Equim. I was under the impression that both had identical car deck arrangements, so why the different capacities shown on the BCFS website?
And speaking of platforms, I have yet to travel on a Spirit with its platforms in use. Have any of you regulars traveled on either Spirit with platforms being used? The listed capacity for these ships is 470, but it is more realistically reported as maybe 380 seeing as how they rarely if ever use the platforms.
Then there is (or was) the Q of the North. They used to list it as having a capacity of 157 vehicles. When she sank the news reports said the capacity was 115. Was the lower number a reduction brought about by the installation of Macgregor doors on the main car deck? The North had platforms on both the port and starboard sides, but they only ever used them on the one side. (Maybe both were used at the time she was the Q of Surrey.) Perhaps the 157 capacity was possible only if both sets of platforms were used. Does anyone know for sure?

I have travelled on the Spirit ships when they have used the platform decks. I think one time we were parked on the platform decks. I actually have video footage of us driving on the SOVI when the platform decks were down. That was back in 97 I think on a long weekend. I havent seen them use them that much now.

Thanks for posting those that gives you a look at how many cars they hold. I wonder why "C" Class holds more cars on it's upper car deck then it's main car deck

Permanent ramps from MCD to Gallery take up space. No such obstructions on UCD.

Overall, I have to say I'm surprised that I like the design.
Although I'm not wild about the funnel. There seems to be some sort of ugly funnel contest going on with ferry designs these days. I think they're the single most disappointing feature on the Jumbo Mark II's down here. We had Spaulding's nice smooth funnels on the Mark I's and then they stuck that horrible square box on the Mark II's.
The funnels on this design aren't too bad, but something about those pipes sticking up through it kind of ruin it for me.

Will the SuperC's have platform decks for sure? It's just that if they're based on the C-class ships, wouldn't they just have the permanent gallery decks? Probably makes loading a bit quicker.

We'll just have to wait and see what they do. It would be nice if they gave us a look at what the car decks will look like

Well looking at the model on the Sannich, it only has one bulkhead in the middle not two like the C-Class. I would guess any platforms or galley decks would be attached to the center tunnel.
