Won't be known until she receives her Canadian Radio Station Licence, which occurs almost at the same time she clears her final Transport Canada inspection and receives her "citizenship".
Then she can wear the Canadian flag and will be given her Canadian radio call sign.

I went for a ferry ride on rte. 30 yesterday. Caught the 1015 sailing of the Alberni from Tsawwassen and the 1515 sailing of the Cowichan from Duke Point.
I could see that a new dolphin is being constructed at the Duke Point berth to accomodate the CI. The crew on the Cowichan told me that the CI may not enter service now until the middle or the end of June as the work on the dolphin can only be done in between sailings! This contradicts what RBI says but we all know that the RBI info isn't always reliable that far in the future.
So nothing official, just thought I'd let everyone know what the crew is saying.

The Dolphin in the Case of Ferries is the Structure that is sometimes parallel to land that the Ferry is up against on it's port or Starboard Side as a barrier when it is in dock so the Ferry doesn't move away from the dock. There are two types Floating and Permanent. Floating Dolphins are more so favored where minor vessels often dock as a barrier. Permanent Dolphins are often used by Larger Ferries for tie-up purposes so the bow or stern of the ferry doesn't float away as well as being a barrier for nearby land. Hope that helps.

Where is this dolphin, could you draw it into a google earth picture?
Is it a round turning dolphin or a wingwall type structure on the land side? Will it interfere with power slides, removing the ability for the QNW to cover on route 30?

Wingwall type. And it's on the land side.

I am going to correct some terminology here. The wingwall is the part that the stern or bow of the ship rests against while it is in berth. There are always 2, one on each side of the apron. Sometimes they are a synthetic material such as plastic, or on some of the older, smaller berths, it is wood. The dolphin is the part of the berth that extends beside the dock to hold the ship in place. They are usually made of steel, but on the older berths they can be wood. They can be floating or permanently fixed. As DENelson said, generally they are fixed for larger berths and floating for smaller, although that is changing with some of the new berths going in. For example, Berth 2 at SWB is entirely floating. The main ramp floats, as well as the wingwalls and dolphin. The turning dolphin is the round thing at the end of the dolphin at the large berths that the ships use to push against while they turn. Here is a photo to illustrate what I mean. For those people who don't know, this is Sturdies Bay.

Coastal Inspiration as of 10:50pm Tuesday is heading in towards Tsawwassen Terminal. She is suppose to be there from 12:30-4:30pm for employee tours. If I dident have to work today I would of gone over to see her at TSA. oh well.

Well, with the CI at Tsawwassen terminal and within range of Siitech's AIS receiver network, we now know the CI's new Canadian callsign—CFN497.

She's racing back to Nanaimo at 23.3 knots now. But her destination is listed as being Duke Point? Will any of the Nanaimo members be on standby in an hour?

Wednesday 9:50am and she is heading back into Tsawwassen. Maybe some dock trials?? Queen of Alberni is also coming in behind her. Looks like the CI is going into berth 3 and the Alberni is either going to berth 5 or mayboe 4.

Day 3 of running to Tsawwassen again......She also has the Queen of Tsawwassen coming up on her Starboard bow. That must be sight to see the two of them together!
Maybe she'll be pressed into service sooner than we all think?
All these photo opportunities of seeing a Super C at Tsawwassen, and nobody is available for it.

She's heading to Swartz Bay right now. Maybe they'll finally test her for docking at the new berth.

And the question now is, can two Super C's safely pass each other in the Pass?

And the question now is, can two Super C's safely pass each other in the Pass? Is there some history to this? If the spirits can pass, no doubt the super c's can pass. They would prolly go to mode 2 once they are in confined waters and I suspect they handle as well or better than a spirit once in mode 2.

Let's have this discussion in about 5 or 6 years when it may no longer be hypothetical. I suspect routes 2 and 30 will get additional coastal class ferries before route 1.
