Hmm, I think no. I also think, that WMO would not be interested to install expensive equipment on a ship that crosses the atlantic only once...

Just a note to anyone who is still awake right now. I've just seen the Coastal Celebrations zodiak get lifted by one of the massive cranes, and is sitting near the pier to be in the webcam picture. I don't think it would be set on to the Ferry yet, because there's still painting of the decks and etc to do. Here's a sceen capture for those who have missed it....

The deck crew from BCFS to arrive at FSG on April 9th. I going to say she going to leave FSG on May 9th. Do a 360 in London on the May 12th. Open house in Seate some time during the week of June 23rd. Be in service for Thanksgiven and not before then.

Quick question: from my days living in Victoria, I know there are a couple of small islands just north of Swartz bay (don't know their names).
The V-class ships can sail right between them, but the S-class ships take the scenic route around them.
As the Coastal Celebration will be the Coastal class ship on this route, will she be able to go between the islands or go around them?

Does this map help, markkarj? And no, I don't think the CC will be able to fit through Gosse Passage.

No, I think this is what he means... The S class vessels, I believe, always take the routes shown in magenta above. The Coast Boats are almost as large so they may do the same thing. On the other hand there are two key differences. They apparently have much shallower hulls (someone please correct me if this is not the case), meaning that they can more easily use those more direct passages. We also need to keep in mind that they are double enders; no need to slide by a berth and then back in. Swartz Bay is a well designed with single enders in mind. I am a bit curious as to how they will work things out with a very large double ender factored into the mix. Will the CC always use berth 2? Or will it just overnight in that berth. I gather that the Coast Boats can use berth 1 as easily as berth 2. I expect that their routes of approach and departure will not be the same as for the Spirits.

The S class on the inbound to Swartz Bay route actually sails on the east side of Portland (form. Princess Margaret) Island. I believe that is island in the upper R corner of the chart

My guess is that it will be more or less left to the captain to decide on the routing to take. I know there is one captain on the SOVI that takes a slightly different route than all the others, not sure where exactly he differs though.
I think the reason the Spirits don't go through Goose Passage is because it is faster to go around Knapp Island and to a gradual turn than to go through the passage and use bow thrusters to do a slow speed sharp turn. Following this line of thinking, I think the CC will probably follow the same route as the Vs did, since she won't have to turn around.
As for berthing choices, according to my dad, and also what I have heard from the senior master on the SOVI, the CC will be overnighted and tied up in berth 2, but for operational use she will use berth 1. Since there is very little difference in the beam of the Spirits and Coastals, particularly at the stern of the Spirits, berth 1 will be able to take both ships without any difficulties.

The S class on the inbound to Swartz Bay route actually sails on the east side of Portland (form. Princess Margaret) Island. I believe that is island in the upper R corner of the chart I have checked my map (Gamin City Navigator GPS) and you are quite right. They do come around the far (east) side of the island at the upper right which is Portland Is.

Yep, that's what my GPS track log from June 21, 2007 said. The S classes do return to Swartz Bay passing east of Portland Island.

Markus,
Will the CC be moved this Friday in order for the new Turkish Ro-Ro to be launched and place on the outfitting stage side of the pier? The Deckhouse will still have to be placed on to the vessel as well, so I'd assume the CC would get moved over to the pier the CI was at for a while?

on thursday, CC will be moved on the other side of the harbour for the floating crane to be able to put on the deckhouse. next week CC will come back to the pier.

This was the scene about 45 minutes ago. The Coastal Celebration is moved from the dock. Meanwhile the Turkish Vessel is Prepared for launch.

No, I think this is what he means... Actually, he wondered about the names of the islands just north of Swartz Bay, which my map provides.

The forum judges have convened, and decided that DNELson and Wet Coast Kid can split the 25,000 forum bonus points between them.
Points are redeemable for unspecified rewards.

And just for completeness, here's the electronic version of what PK is talking about. Green is outbound from SWB, while red is inbound: BTW, my charts actually have the BC Ferry routes programmed right into them.

Hey Brink, can you get some interior shots of the CC, including her (presumed) Pacific Buffet?

I don't see any trace of the 3M ScotchPrint graphics on the CC's side yet. When are they going on her?

Looking at the picture of the Cc, i really like her with out the Olympic decals, from the view we have in that picture it looks like maby they could make the bc ferries logo a bit larger, because theres a large amount of white. Also because i'm on the topic, what do you guys think of the decals on the new Super C's. Personally i am not a fan of the Cr's however i love the ones on the Ci.

I don't mind them if they "have" to be there. It's only the run-up to 2010 and the actual Olympic year that we will see them. After that, we go back to the drab BCFS paint job that we loathe so much. My 2 cents anyways...
