After talking with the Chief Steward on the Chilliwack this past weekend, apparently the I-sky is going back to the shipyard either this week or next week (I can't remember what she said exactly) for warranty repairs. Something to do with the anchor gear not retracting properly.
She should still be in service for the middle of February though.

Not to "out" anyone, but someone I know has a very recent pic of the Chilli with the Ispysky. But he (or maybe she) is holding back and not sharing .

The Island Sky is currently back in Burrard Inlet at Vancouver Shipyards. Didn't take long to get her down there to get those warranty repairs looked after.

It took me a while to actually notice this.....but the Island Sky has been sitting in Horseshoe Bay since 5:30pm yesterday afternoon after checking the replay function on Siitech. www.westvancouver.com/webcams/hbaycam/Her destination is "Langdail to Horsesho"

I swear I just saw the Island sky leave Swartz Bay, enter Satellite channel and turn East. And it wasn't going to Fulford; just kept powering by.

I swear I just saw the Island sky leave Swartz Bay, and enter Satellite channel. Dosn't appear to be going to Fulford. Wow, you're right! I see her on Siitech heading past the entrance to Fulford Harbour, going at a clip of 16.4 knots. It's destination is currently reading 'Swartz Bay', which is sure to change now. I'm really curious about why the Island Sky went to Swartz Bay!

Currently in Active Pass @ 10 knots. Siitech heading still lists destination as Swartz Bay.

She is probably testing out all the southern gulf island terminals because sister ships will be built in future to replace the mayne queen, bowen, cumberland, skeena ect.
Note future could be in 10 years too

Note future could be in 10 years too It could also be just in case she has to fill in as a relief vessel in the Gulf Islands at any point, as well. With all the shopping around they do for a different design every time they build a new vessel... one wonders if they would even stick with this one for more than one vessel. (Besides it's so painfully ugly )

I guess she's the prototype for expansion of the Intermediate class.

Just so people are aware... the I-sky is currently tied up at Swartz Bay. They were doing dock fits all day today at each of the SGIs, testing for berth compatibility.

I guess she's the prototype for expansion of the Intermediate class. I don't believe so. No where in any of BC Ferries long range forecasts is there a mention, even in the obscure, to purchase another one.

True, but the Powell River class ferries are also nearing the end of their service lives. I don't think they teach asthetics to new maritime architects.

It's amazing, BCF actually is acknowledging that the Island Sky exists. Apparently there will be an open house in Saltery Bay on Friday, Feb. 13th. www.bcferries.com/bcferries/faces/attachments?id=86369BC FERRIES’ NEWEST VESSEL OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC MV Island Sky to host public open house VICTORIA – BC Ferries is hosting an open house in Powell River to give the public an early preview of its newest ship, the Island Sky. The 102-metre vessel, built at Vancouver Shipyards in North Vancouver, will commence service on BC Ferries’ Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route, which connects the Northern and Southern Sunshine Coast, in late February. The MV Island Sky will be available for public tours on Friday, February 13 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at BC Ferries’ Saltery Bay terminal in Powell River. “BC Ferries is proud to showcase the MV Island Sky and give the public an opportunity to see the outstanding travel experience that awaits them on the scenic Sunshine Coast,” said Mike Corrigan, BC Ferries’ EVP and Chief Operating Officer. The Island Sky, which will accommodate 450 passengers and 125 vehicles, is equipped with the latest in marine safety, fire fighting and lifesaving equipment. The ship has also been fitted with numerous systems to make it one of the most environmentally-friendly vessels in the BC Ferries fleet. Passenger amenities on the Island Sky include: a Coastal Cafe Express; comfortable lounge seating with panoramic views; spacious outdoor seating on an open sundeck; and an elevator. The Island Sky will be the sixth new ship BC Ferries has brought into service in the past two years. A seventh new vessel, the Northern Expedition, will start service on BC Ferries’ Port Hardy – Prince Rupert route in May.

No where in any of BC Ferries long range forecasts is there a mention, even in the obscure, to purchase another one. That's because, as we all know... the Island Sky is custom designed for those wonderful, vocal and sometimes complainy Bowen Islanders, so why would you ever need a second one... I can just imagine the howls of protest the first time the Island Sky hits the Bowen run and has to be relieved... by the Capilano -- scandalous! The Powell River Class are not that close to the end of their lives either... they're a good deal younger than the New West, and the PRQ has a brand new cardeck... they can always go through scaled down refits similar to the New West, just adjust the price down, or up, for the size of the vessel (yeah right)... well with all three, that should add up to the price of one Queen of New Westminster refit. Well at the very least, the PRQ can go cause they've uglified her so much. But they're only allowing two hours for this open house... is that enough time to get the entire population of Powell River and environs through the ship? Well, yeah, because there really isn't much of it... there's only a Coastal Cafe Express, and most of them will probably quake in fear at the sight of it when they see it waiting to swallow them whole.

When I started reading this about the Island Sky being custom designed for Bowen Islanders, one thing popped to mind... "The Homer" There is no escaping it now, I will now forever think of the Island Sky as the Homer of the fleet. I wonder if the Island Sky has a horn that plays La Cucaracha!?
