Man, that little shrimp boat has some torque. I love the holeshot you did after backing her down. 0 to plane in about a foot. ;D

HI
This is a request probably for the more experienced ferry nerds out there. Does anyone have any good pictures that show the old green hull color of the Queen of Chilliwack? It doesn't even have to be the Chilliwack as all the ships had the same paint before they switched to the red. I want to be able to match the color fairly accurately as it is an interesting color.
Cheers,

A few more oldies for you... Queen of Victoria backing out of Tsawwassen Terminal in 1981 or 82 Both photos by DOTOk I finally found the picture I though I had seen, some time ago. I had been looking for over a week before I posted my question. Does anyone know of anything any better? Cheers,

Hmm. Looks vaguely like the color of oxidized copper.

I'M A FEKKING IDIOT!
For the last month I have been going nuts trying to find a picture of that hull color somewhere. I knew I had seen it somewhere but couldn't remember where. I found the picture of the Victoria, but after a while I realized although its the right color its not the same picture.
After BCinNJ's link to actual hull paint, it clicked where I had seen it. I even have a 1 gal. can of it.
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
A year ago, I spent 3 days under my dads 20' fiberglass boat painting that exact same material onto the hull. Then just now I look out my window where I can see said Hull and it is exactly the same color as in the picture of the Victoria. I then think hey it must be the exact same material.
1 point for intelligence, 0 for Cadmunkey.
Thanks BCinNJ, cant believe i missed that one.
Cheers,

I have been working on my website and model slowly, it is the end of semester so I am kinda busy. I am re framing the site on my server and a lot of content needs to be updated or built so it is taking a while. The boat has had just a few changes but, I want to wait until the site is ready to publish them all. I've also been doing a lot of computer planning and drawing, because the next step has to be right or else I'm screwed.
Nice to know someone actually looks at my website.
Cheers,

Long time lurker, just signed up to post this message:
Love your model, and think it's cool that you want to paint the boat in the old colors. I think there is something so elegant about the old light blue/white scheme.
Well done, and I will be watching for some photos of your z-drives.

Okie Dokie, fixed the bug with the Buttons.
Also been in contact with guys at Firefox. They say that the tool that created the photo-slideshows on my site is not supported by Firefox as of yet. If you are using Firefox you will just have to scroll your page to the side for now or use Internet Explorer.
Cheers,

Hi all, Well as you can see its been a long time since I have updated my website. I'm still plunking away on the model, just this last week I have put in over 30 hours. It is very time consuming and I would rather be working on the model than on the website. Someday I will add some more, maybe over the holidays. Since my last update the hull has been sanded thoroughly yet I am still unhappy with all the little pinholes in it. I am never going to make a fiberglass part without a gel coat layer in the mold first ever again, that would have eliminated all the pinholes completely. I have added the rubbing strake and solid pine main car deck, this will act as my waterproof lid, there is a large opening in it with a wood hatch that bolts in place and seals it up. I have added a deck inside the hull to mount all of my electrical parts and components. The battery holder has been fiber glassed in. Two weekends Ago I machined the better part of the Rads, and have now mounted the rad sleeves. Over 1000$ in gears, pulleys, belts, motors, props, servos, receiver, Speed controllers, sensors, various other electrical components, the battery, power regulators, stainless bolts, wire, fuses, breakout blocks, fiberglass, and resin has gone into this project so far. I am also looking at about another 800 - 1000$ to finish the project. I still need to build the entire superstructure(that will be built quickly), add the toys a plan on adding including engine sound, smoke, working winches and cranes, horn, completely lighted, as well as various safety features (smoke alarm and bilge pump), and I have to figure out how to get it heavy enough to sit at her waterline (Lead). I also estimate about 500 hours of planning and actual work has gone into it so far. And am thinking 1,000's more until I am completely finished, but any good modeler knows a model isn't finished until it sinks, or the wife makes you get ride of it. A couple of pictures. Fiber glassing in the rubbing strakes: Sitting in the hot tub after test fitting the rubbing strakes and deck: Fresh primer: Machining RAD parts: RAD Parts: I'll take some pictures of it next week once I get the inside all pretty and cleaned up with a fresh coat of gel coat. I am hoping to have her floating in the tub again before Christmas. The RADs might be operational but, there is a 2 month wait for the propellers. On December 21st I will be in Victoria. I am planning on taking my other 2 boats to the Harrison Yacht Pond in Beacon Hill Park and will be bringing my Chilliwack model for some extensive water tests. I will be pulling her around with my tuna boat. If anyone is interested in seeing her I will post later the time I am hoping to be there. I am really hoping that Nick will be around to take a look. Cheers,

Wow ! That video tour of the engine-room of your model is an eye-opener to your skill and to the level of mechanical detail of your model.
I'm impressed. Awesome, only better.

Okie Dokie, I havent been able to work on my Chilliwack model lately as I broke my tap and I have to special order a new one, so until I get a new one I cannot complete all the rads. And there is nothing else to do until I get the rads operating properly. So, I finished up repainting the Spirit of Canim Lake and got her out of her latest 3 month refit. (most of that time was spent behind the wack) This is the last time she goes in for refit, I hope. I just need to make her new name decals. She runs beautifully now. And yes, those are snowflakes. Cheers,

Your refit facilities seem to rival Deas! Excellent spread (as posted already) and top-notch skillset! Makes me realize how utterly unskilled I am in anything other than moving furniture! lol

Well, my facility is very new. We just added a new shop onto the back of the garage. Before that I literally hung my projects from the ceiling and walls so I would be able to sleep in my bed at night. I had to do most of my work in my room and when i needed to do something messy I had to wait for nice weather and go outside.
I believe the Queen of Chilliwack is hull number 4 out of 6. It is by far the largest successful hull I have constructed. I had one hull that was 5'6" long but after building up the ribs and sheeting it, I decided it was a disgusting looking hull and burnt it. The Chilliwack was the first hull I computer designed, I will never go back to paper design of hulls. The ability to see a hull in the computer, tweak it, and generate ribs at 2" centers is amazing.
Well back to work, i'm currently finishing up the keels.
Cheers,

I got the new RAD control belts in the mail today, so I rigged up the RAD control system and for the first time I had moving RADS. Footage: Picture of the linkages inside the hull: Cheers,
