Hi, While I wait for materials to arrive for the car deck structure I have been working on the funnel. It is starting to look really good. After some final touch ups next week I will be painting it blue and adding the dogwood flag and strips around the top. I also have to add the access door and the cooling louvers. The horns will come later. A shot to put the size of the bridge in perspective to the hull. Cheers,

Nice progress! You're an excellent model builder.
I like that book end on the shelf. Is that of the Sydney Opera House, Australia?

I'm loving the process of this model. My only wonder is if it will be finished in time to see the real Queen of Chilliwack.
Have you thought about bringing it "on tour" for your fellow voyagers to see when it is finished? Or is taking it long distances too big of a risk.

Ferrynut: Yes that is the Sydney Opera House.
PR Kid: I brought it to the QPR decommissioning for those that were there to see. Yes when its done I will probably invite everyone to Burnaby to see her in action. My goal is to be able to take pictures of my model infront of the real ship so I only have a year and a half or so to complete it.
Kieran: The props are Raboesh 2" 4 blade brass props.
Cheers,

So, I have yet another question.
Does anyone know what the font is that was used for the vessel names in the expo scheme?
Also, I believe that the ships weren't painted white they were some sort of a cream colour, is this true? I know the V's were cream on the inside, but were they on the outside as well. I think I have a piece of paint from the inside of the 'Tsawwassen. Would this be an accurate depiction of that colour?
Cheers Guys,

I think the expo colour was still considered "white", but it is definitely a warmer white than what is used currently. What it's called and how you might duplicate it, I have nooo idea.

Was Queen of Chilliwack around in the Dogwood era? I was under the impression she had Expo colours from the very beginning.

That's true... early pictures from her first year of service show she started off in the Expo colors. However, that does sound like a good concept for Whidbeyislandguy to try and capture: the essence of the Queen of Chilliwack in pastel blue.

Yeah, she sailed over in expo colours. I'm just not sure if its a pure white or if its a little creamy, I think its creamy and I might just match the chunk of paint I have from the 'Tsawwassen.

First coat of blue paint. Its not perfect, but the paint should work out after another coat. I've added the access door, louvers on both ends, and the two electrical conduits on each end. Just a few touch ups to the paint, then paint the black on the exhaust pipes and inside of the funnel, then the strips and dogwood. Cheers,

Tonight I did another coat of Blue one the funnel. Tomorrow I will do the black. Turns out the feeder hose on the airbrush was leaking so it was drawing air and not paint so that's why the first coat sucked so much. It should have gone on in one smooth coat like it did today. Cheers,

Here's some shots taken during the circlepac trip some of us Voyagers did on the weekend at Mowat Bay, where the hull of Brett's Queen of Chilliwack model made her debut on Powell Lake... A true masterpiece in Ferry modeling with Yours Truly's creation, the Queen of the Frogs... Love this Shot... Blurry with the flash off... The Queen of the Frogs is smaller all around than the wheelhouse Brett made...it could almost fit in there! The flash from the camera in this shot made the wheelhouse look like a trippy mystery box... Brett's Chilli and My Frog... It was then too dark to take many good photos so we headed off...

This Monday I received all the wood to start building the majority of the superstructure for the model. So, starting as soon as I finish my English Literature paper I will be pulling the Queen of Chilliwack back into the shipyards here in Chilliwack where the fine skilled workers of the CMFCWU are thrilled to get back to work soon.
It is believed that the majority of the structure could be in place within three weeks with skinning in the next month and a half. Once that is complete the hydraulic systems and loading ramps will be constructed and fitted to the hull.
Meanwhile, the painters have been able to re-spray the funnel today and are optimistic that it will work right this time.
Cheers,

This weekend I got started on the superstructure. Friday I was able to get the majority of the planning done for the deck. Saturday I got the No. 2 end all laminated and framed up. You can see the No. 1 end deck is ready to be layed up int he background. I positioned it somewhat like where it will end up. Today I got the No. 1 end all layed up and got the No. 2 end in final position and started cutting all the posts. Each one has to be hand made as every single post has a slightly different angle. Tomorrow I might get the No. 2 end posts all finished up and start the No. 1 end. Then I will have to start working up the posts along the sides to join the two ends together. Cheers,

OK, I got some schematics and fun stuff to read about RADs and the units I built on my website now. It under Right Angle Drives in the construction window. www.queenofchilliwack.caAn update on construction. The CMFCWU, has been working hard at barely working. It appears that the boss had way to much work to do for school to have much time to spend on the superstructure. We have although had time to build a new RAD based transmitter interface and work on some of the RAD guidance system related stuff. We have brought in help from Sydney to deal with the more advanced guadance chip programming. In other words, the hull got put aside and i built a new transmitter and Nick is helping by programming the chips to run the RADs like the ones in the real ship, cause I don't know how to program micro controllers.. Cheers,
