The Queen of Cowichan has just arrived at Vancouver Drydock for the second part of her life-extension refit. She began the journey there yesterday afternoon, when she was first towed to Tsawwassen, and then towed to Vancouver Drydock today
Meanwhile, the Queen of New West also repositioned from Esquimalt, to Tsawwassen where she was docked for a night or two before carrying on to Deas for the second part of her life extension refit

Salish Orca is passing by Departure Bay this morning, heading up island. The Salish Heron has passed the baton back to the Salish Orca on Route 17 and is now repositioning south in the strait.

Salish Orca is passing by Departure Bay this morning, heading up island. The Salish Heron has passed the baton back to the Salish Orca on Route 17 and is now repositioning south in the strait. The Salish Orca has been the regular Comox based ship since she was delivered. I'm wondering whether BC Ferries has been able to keep the four Salish class vessels identical, in terms of crewing and interchangeability, or if any distinctions have taken place. I'm guessing that they've done their best to keep to the original plan...

I agree, and thought this was the intention as well. In summer 2019 Salish Eagle was the vessel on route 17, with the Orca on route 9; I don't remember if this lasted into the 2020 season or not. But Orca certainly seems to find her way back to route 17 more frequently than the others in the class. Despite how standardized their designs may be, over time each vessel will develop their own "quirks" and little operational things that regular crews can adjust for. Certainly, that was the case with Comox crews being unhappy when Queen of Sidney was retired and replaced with Queen of Tsawwassen back in 2000 - I've read that the Comox crews had retrofits and improvements done to Sidney that Tsawwassen did not have. There can also just be smaller things such as maps and tourism brochures that are based on the local area served, and it takes time and effort to swap over all of the operating materials when vessels are moved up to route 17 (vs vessels staying in the SGI on routes 5/9).

Oak Bay's refit begins on Monday
