As mentioned yesterday, how about buses at ferry terminals (must be easily recognizable as a ferry terminal)? Would the SeaBuss be OK? It's just an idea but I don't think SeaBus would count. I'm sure that's already been done.

What about ferries that are a part of / run by transit agencies/networks, like TransLink's SeaBus, Kitsap Transit Ferry, King County Water Taxi, or Staten Island Ferry? Thoughts?

Is the Staten Island Ferry passengers only? If Staten Ferry is passenger only vessel than yes!

Is the Staten Island Ferry passengers only? If Staten Ferry is passenger only vessel than yes! Then I guess the them would be more like passenger-only ferries than buses. That should include: Victoria Clipper Lady of the Lake and Lady Express (lake Chelan) SeaBus King county and Kitsap County water taxis Soundrunner Smaller POF to islands (Hat I, Mc Neil...) (Maybe tour boats like whale watch, Glacier Express or Argosy?)

That's probably a bit much, which is why I suggested transit agency operated ferries, but what do others think?

We could do both but for the passengers only ones not include the ones from transit agency.

I think one month we should do, two or more of the same class meet. For BC Ferries, the Spirits, the Coastals, Queen of Coquitlam meets Queen of Cowichan, Queen of Oak Bay meets Queen of Surrey, Queen of Nanaimo meets Queen of Burnaby, Bowen Queen meets Mayne Queen, Klitsa meets Albion ferries . For WSF, Jumbo Mark II, Jumbo, Issaquah class excluding the Sealth, Klahowya meets Tillikum.

A/C, I like your idea (a lot) and here are some observations that I would like to make: Positive: -I like the idea of seeing two boats of the same class without being able to distinguish one from the other without a description -I like the extensive ferry list, all in italics, Awesome Cheese style! You have definitely great evidence that decides your ideas. Negative (not to discourage you but to be realistic): - We already had that theme in March-A little too much specific on which vessels. Just do same classes (if possible identical but Alberni with Surrey for example should be accepted. Let's say vessels that share similar plans and/or hulls. The relationship would though need to be evident. I think that there is enough similarities between the Tachek and the Tenaka for instance) -Why only Tilikum and Klahowya? Of course now these are the only two you can photograph at the same time today. But a few years ago the Tilikum and the E-State were both working up in the islands. -Don't forget classes from AMHS (Malaspina, LeConte and the fast ferries) and other ferry services. Random Observation: MV Albion Ferries? Never heard of that one ;D

I also had the idea of doing ferry "tourist shots" or "classic shots" like: BCFs: -Ferry in active pass - like Ferryman's signature (as of today) -C class departing/arriving HSB with snowy mountains in background (something like that. Except whole ferry: Queen of Capilano by BrasegaliWA, on Flickr) -Ferry in Inside passage / AMHS too -Ferry with downtown Vancouver in background WSF: Ferry with Space Needle "emerging" from the smokestacks Ferry with Pike Place Market sign Ferry with Seattle skyline behind Any: Ferry and orca/other marine animals Ferry with Cascades/Olympics (mountains) in background or with known mountains (Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker...)

Recent events also gave me another idea: Ferries in places where you don't see them frequently like a C Class not on route 2, 3 or 30. Or a JMI/JMII not on central sound routes.

That's a good suggestion. We'll have to keep this one in mind. Puyallup at VMD in North Vancouver would definitely be a good nomination for this flagship. Kaleetan at Edmonds & Kingston, or Yakima at Fauntleroy would also work nicely, too. There are plenty of good examples of this. Thanks for the idea.

I have an idea that comes from the photo shown below. Perhaps one month the theme could be to submit headers that combine a ferry with people recreating in the foreground/background. In the photo below we see kayakers & the SOBC. It could be any ferry operating in WA, BC or AK waters and the recreation could be on the water or on the land. For instance sailors, wind surfers, someone reeling in a fish, hikers on the shoreline, campers including tents, etc. What do others think? Good Idea, as most of island-based recreation is acceded by ferries and that the ferries are somewhat a part of the recreation.

And another idea:
Nameboards, bulwark names or something indicating the ferry's name on the ferry, like those WSF wooden nameboards or the names in garmond font for BCFS.

How about for this and coming months we allow each voter to chose up to six photos. That way you can vote for some or all of your own submissions (if you really feel they are among the best) and at least three other photos that are not your own. At the end of it all, those photos that go on to be displayed as headers in the following month will still be the ones with the greatest number of votes, albeit with higher vote counts for each.

Agree with that. Minimum should be four votes, and a maximum of six, based on the number of entries: up to 20 entries: 4 votes 21 - 30: 5 votes 31 and up: 6 votes

We should do that way.

I like this idea, If I could add another. 10 and Under: 3 Votes.
Another thought, should the Number of Votes determine how many photos are displayed per month? In the case of what I suggested above, the Top 3 would be displayed. More would be displayed if 3rd Place was tied.
