I like this idea, If I could add another. 10 and Under: 3 Votes. Another thought, should the Number of Votes determine how many photos are displayed per month? In the case of what I suggested above, the Top 3 would be displayed. More would be displayed if 3rd Place was tied. I don't know. Three entries displayed seems a little not enough. I'd say 5 should be the minimum.

I think a minimum of 4 votes so that you have to choose at least one photo that is not your own. I too like the idea of increasing the number of votes when the number of entries is higher.
It is possible that in some months we might have very few entries, say less than 10. In such circumstances some modified means of final selection would be appropriate.

Copied from the "Flagship voting - March 2013" thread... We had discussed increasing the number of votes allowed per member. That discussion was not followed up on. The downside of moving the discussion off to another thread is that no decision was made. Too bad! We will be increasing the number of votes allowed in the upcoming month's flagship. This will be announced today. At the same time are you able to do something about keeping pole results hidden until the voting is locked? Or is this another something to do with the new PB V5 that is a step backwards from the old PB?

I just checked, and V5 has 3 options for polls created: 1) results showing before you vote 2) results showing after you vote 3) results showing after poll is closed. I would expect that we'd always want to use option-3. - I'm not sure why it wasn't chosen for our recent poll.

Are those of you with 'staff privileges' able to see how members have voted before the pole is locked when 'option 3' is in effect? Furthermore, can you track how people change their votes during the course of voting when results are visible as per 'option 2'? Going even further, are you able to see to what extent we are 'homers' in our voting choices (i.e. we choose our own submissions over those of others)?

Going even further, are you able to see to what extent we are 'homers' in our voting choices (i.e. we choose our own submissions over those of others)? I know what colour of underwear you were wearing when you voted. But seriously, in the old version, staff was able to always see the results at any time. - the only way to see if anyone changed a vote would be to click the pop-up list of the names of people who voted, and see if someone who was originally first on the list is now most-recent. But no way to what changes were made. And the only way to tell who was a "homer" was just for that brief moment when only the first person had voted (because we'd see the name of who voted, and be able to see the poll-standings.). - but now I read history books for my entertainment, so I don't stay glued to the poll-screen. I'm not sure about V5 re ability for staff to see voting results, because we haven't set up a poll that way yet. I would expect that it is the same as the previous version.

In v4.5 you could retract your vote to see the results, and vote again, so it's not really different now.

Yes, I think that this was what happened. I never remember seeing the results of a "results hidden until locked" poll.

But not if the moderator sets up the poll so that results stay hidden until the poll is locked (ie. next day). - that's why that is the preferred option for us to use.

Just an idea that recent events gave me: We could do a Rhody flagship next month, or a retired boats flagship sometime.

For those hoping to get a head-start on the next flagship photo contest, my guess is that it might be something like "Ferry seating shot from floor level".
- in other words, it's Scott's turn.
Stay tuned....

One month we should do ferries seen from a plane.

One month we should do ferries seen from a plane. Not a bad idea, but I don't think we would get very many entries. Although, it would give me a good reason to crop this photo and submit it:

One month we should do ferries seen from a plane. Or just from above in general. That way, we could have shots from mountains or hilltops, or shots from skyscrapers looking down on the ferries.

The plane one would be hard. It would be a cool one to do! Looking down on the ferries then one month we should do looking up at the ferries!

People will probably enter such shots into this month's contest, so what's the point of doing pretty much the same thing next month? I'd prefer one with photos of a ferry's exterior, specifically shots of the ferry's sun deck, pickleforks, shelter decks, the solariums, and of the stacks. For some reason, I just feel really uncomfortable taking pics of a ferry's interior, but on a recent ferry trip I got plenty of exterior photos. I still think that there should be another month where we do photos of now-retired vessels. Unfortunately, I don't have any, but I still think that would be cool to do.

We actually did the outdoor spaces back in December 2012. Sorry. As for interiors, I would recommend going for shots at the very start of a crossing (rush from your car to the cabin fastly) or after the "we are now arriving at our destination..." announcement. The crew is ok with taking pictures of the interior, and the main problem, people are not present in the times I cited above.

The Columbia tower and Space Needle are great in WA, and the Galiano bluffs are great for active pass. Steve: ready to go do a field trip to Mt. Walker with your telescope??? Lol!
