Can anyone figure this photo out? www.globalairphotos.com/large/BC/Sidney/All/1997/001/2 Why there is 4 Queens at Swartz Bay? I am thinking the Spirit and refits during January and March, and that photo was taken in February. But I dont think they would have 2 Spirits out at the same time. That would be pretty tight have all 4 berths occupied, cause they would need free berths for the gulf island routes and the vancouver route. I dont know, I cant figure it out.

It looks as if one ship is just arriving in berth 3 and the the ship in berth 1 has the bow thruster running (ready for departure?). The ship in berth 4 looks like it is meant to be there for a while (bow to rather than stern to the dock). My question: why is the ship arriving into berth 3 docking bow in rather than stern to the dock?? In for a quick touch and go?

It looks to me like the two Queens which are docked bow to, are the Saanich and Esquimalt and the other two would have to be the Victoria and Vancouver. How I can tell by photos is the Queen of Saanich and Esquimalt dont have the port holes on the lower vehicle decks and the Victoria and Vancouver do have them. Probably the one running in berth 1 would be the Vancouver as I dont know how often they used the Victoria. The one in berth 1 that is running could be ready to leave but it looks like by the photo there are a few lanes of vehicle plus overheights, unless they were leave behinds. Obviously the one coming into berth 3 cant be from Tsawwassen with passengers and vehicles cause they would have to back in at Swartz Bay, maybe it's a stop over before it goes to the drydock or something. Who knows!

I know this is a really old subject, but looking in that picture looks like the vessel coming into berth 3 could be the Queen of New Westminster because she seems al little taller and shorter than her 4 sisters but the Queen of Victoria at the time could of been parked at the Deas Dock in Delta or in one of the unused births at Departure Bay because I remember going on the ferries in 1997 and i saw the Queen of Victoria sitting there for a while but for ex: Queen of Vancouver,Saanich,Esquimalt 129.97m and Queen of New Westminster 129.96m, to me those measurements seem accurate but they are definately different in size but not by much, you couldnt tell just by seeing one of them by itself but u might be able to side by side but anyways my point was that it really doesnt look like that all 4 of the original sisters are in that pic just 3 and another

It's difficult to see a 1cm difference in a picture that size.
I have a feeling 1 Spirit is out (it would be the BC) so the Vancouver based spare is running (Vancouver), then the additional sailing is out with, again, the Vancouver based ship (Esquimalt). The other two ships (bow-in) are the augmentation vessel (Saanich) and (bow-in) surplus vessel (Victoria.)

Sorry Saanich would be bow-out, assuming it was in fact the extra-sailing vessel for Swartz Bay

I think i Got this with all the suggestions ive come to this probably we have the Queens of Vancouver and Sannich the New Westminster coming into the dock the Esquimalt and the Tachek but im not so sure about the Skeena Queen what if its the Quinitsa or Quinsam because the Skeena was built in 1997 but who knows for sure

Yeah its been exactly 2 months since the last update if look at the boat that looks like the Skeena Queen from a angle I think it's the Cumberland

The Ferry you think is the Skeena or Quinsam/Quinitsa is I think is the Mayne Queen by how the upper passenger deck, but it still could be the Cumby too i dunno

coming out of fulford harbour it isn't the cumby probably the bowen. the cumby did do the odd sailing to fulford in the mid 90's after the skeena came but it was a 6:30pm sailing. if this picture is from 97 then it can't really be when it is still daylight at 6:30-7:00pm as the four v classes would not be all there they would be on their respective routes with the two spirits on this run with two v classes

The Ferry coming out of Fulford would be the Bowen Queen if it is back in 97, the Skeena if I am correct dident come into servce till like the Spring. That photo was taken on February 7th which would be the refit periods for the Spirit ships. So that V class in berth 1 would be the one replacing which ever Spirit was out. I have a feeling it would be the SOBC as she was usually the first one to go for refit. Looking at the Pay Parking is hardly full so it would have to be during the week, not sure which day was Feb 7 back in 97. I would assume they would be the Queen of Saanich or Vancouver replacing the Spirit ships. Then that would leave the Esquimalt and the Victoria. I dont know if it would be the New West.

I think you're right, The Skeena Queen was built in 1997, so if it is dated feb 5th, 1997, I figure the Skeena Queen wasn't in service yet. So it is Probably the Bowen Queen going to Swartz Bay from Fulford.

All I know is that it was in 97, likely before summer started, I reckon, April, it's just a wild guess, in any case it was sometime before my 10th, B-day

The launch of the Skeena would of been probably in March or earlier months as they had an open house for the Skeena Queen at Swartz Bay on April 12. I know cause I was there. So it would of had to have been before that.

The launch of the Skeena Queen was January 16th 1997. I know cause I have a documentary on the building of the Skeena Queen I taped off of the Knowledge Network.
The Skeena Queens first actual docking took place at Tsawwassen in berths 1 or 2.

You know they were supposed to make 2 more vessels that were the exact same as Skeena Queen. What ever happened to that idea

the cumberland in the summer of 97 did a 6:30pm sailing from swartz bay to fulford. if this pic was taken in feb. then it would be too dark to see any ferries at 6:30
