So are we going to see a "Silver" Harbourlynx? with a blue and red racing stripe down the side ?
Long build time - not on line until either 2006 / 2008?

Think Twins? Is that hint you're saying mean that there are going to be two ships?

So from your last comment - it means a possible order for two smaller Cat design vessels - carring about 150 passengers and top speed at around 30KN.
Will they be prop or jet ? and what Wake / wash / wave factor are you aiming for ?
You also mention that they may be built in the USA - where - East Coast ??
I have now worked out where I saw that picture from.
Low free board - what's the ave wave height in the Strait ? I am thinking around 1.5m - that design is more river - than open water design.

They better not be built too far away from home

If they are built in the States - then under the Jones Act - they can be sold anywhere - so it sort of de-risk the investment a little. Also if you want to trade in the States - then you either pay a tax - if the vessel is not built in America - but wants to trade in America - or if you want to re-sell it on.
The Canadian laws are also crap - in that we add a 25% tax on new vessels coming into canadian waters - which are not built in Canada. If a canadian vessel wants to trade between to the two countries - you have to agree a tax - in referenace to the Jones Act.
So in very simple terms - have your vessel made in America - but to Canadain reg's - therefore on re-sale you have no problems - Banks like it - as it opens up the market - and de-risk there investment.
I don't like it - but that is the law. There was a lot of talk of dropping - changing the Jones Act - and of Canada sorting out there tax - to come into line with the WTO views. Time will tell.

It would be funny if they built it at Burrard Yarrows Vancouver where they built the fastcats

I think that the Harbourlynx people have a fixed budget and small pockets - where the BC Ferries claimed to have VERY DEEP pockets - so maybe not - mind you they should have some of the skilled work force still in place...paid for by BC tax payers - hey that means that Harbourlynx kid's new vessel can claim to be partly sub's by the BC Tax payer...... new twist on Sub fare / rates issue I guess.

No. it'll be a US Boat. Probably with 150 Pax, and run at about 38 - 41 Knots Service Speed with 45- 50 Knots top speed.

Hey Harry, you might like this site, it has 2 nice pictures of the Mill Bay. I wouldn't know if you've seen them before but if you click on them they get bigger and they look pretty good. One problem, the writing is like in German or something, but the names are still understandable. www.faktaomfartyg.com/mill_bay_1956.htm

i slammed the subsidies because it meant that no competitiors could come close. this is liek revenge, and the wake will not be a problem, at this point the MV Harbourlynx Generates Wakes 45% smaller than the Cowichan, and only generates a sizable wake when speeding up or slowing down. the replacement vessels will generate 1/8th the wake of the Lynx, and Run @ 45 Knots. Nice and Fast :> do the Nanaimo -> van Run in 68Min Port to Port,
