When the last C is out of its' midlife (same time we start to see Super Cs) there should be a third vessel on Route 2, for at least 8 months of the year. The route has become overly conjested over the last 3-4 years, and has gotten to the point where the Coquitlam and Cowichan do not provide enough capacity.
BCF will wait until the last possible minute though, seeing as operational costs on Route 2 are very very high. Thatr being said, Route 30 cannot be all that cheap to run, either.

It's funny. I seem to remember there being (4) ships on rt 2 WAY back in the 80's. (Cow,Coq,Surr & Oak) Now, here it is, 2 DECADES later & not only are there not MORE ships on the route, but there's actually LESS ships! And they're trying to tell us BC Ferries in headed in a new dierection? I guess they are... BACKWARDS.

Why doesn't route 2 leave on the hour like route 1. Or at least every 3 hours then a break for an hour and then another 3 voyages on the hour then another break etc.

Route 2 is just as busy as route 1 so it should be every hour on the hour.

Yeah, that's the problem. Right now what they should do in the summer is run the third vessel constantly every day of the week and add extra sailings night Sailings on Fridays and Sundays.

Route 1 is busier than Route 2. Combined, however, Tsawwssen-Duke Point and HB-DB is busier. If Route 2 was busier, the "S" Class ferries would probably be on it right now. Besides, we're getting a couple of new Super "C" Class ferries on the route three years down the road.

Yeah they are. I was on the 1pm from Tsawwassen on Saturday and it was pretty busy from Tsawwassen. I would say a 1 sailing wait. I dont know for sure as I was a foot passenger. Today I saw Swartz Bay and there was a 1 sailing wait. Which is not unusual for weekends. But I think BC Ferries should be running on the hour now until the end of summer. Saturday's werent usually too busy before now it's been busy every Saturday!

Too bad the Queen of Victoria isn't still in the fleet, BCFS could be running it and the Queen of Esquimalt back and forth during peak times like they do with the Queens of Saanich and Vancouver on the Victoria-Vancouver run.

I'd be very surprised if the Dominicans wanted over $500,000.00 U.S. for her. I certainly can't see her being worth any more now. I bet they already sold her engines. That's almost always the 1st thing to be sold, but if they haven't, it seems to me that buying back the Vic would make good economic sense. Of course, by the time you paid the towing fee, brought her back up to code (& you can BET she's in poor shape) -it probably wouldn't be cost effective.

i think that we should wait. right now the ships fit the run, and they seem to make good economical sense. i think that by 2007 when the Super C arrive. we might have the need.

No it is not too bad, the Queen of Victoria was well past her life, she had multiple fires and a russian freighter in her side. She was garbage.

The Vic was probably the most run-down of all the V's.

All the V class are past their prime. Just because the Saanich has a pretty interior does not meen she is in good condition
- I agree with Doug, they should have built 4 Super Cs. - I am saying that Route 2 should go from having less than 50% of the Capcity of Route 1 to having about 65-70% of the capacity (that meens running 3 Cs) - The S Class cannot work Route 2; too large for both terminals.

It's also very tricky to turn a single ender around at HSB. The Esquimalt wastes 10 minutes turning around at Horseshoe bay. The spirits would probably take longer due to their larger size.

It's like the Tsawwassen running Saltery Bay it can do it in the same time as the Chilliwack as it goes 2 knots faster and has to back up like the Newest they need a double ender that goes 16 knots not 14 like the Cap and Chilliwack

The Vic was probably the most run-down of all the V's. And the Alberni was the most beat-up of the "C"s. Wonder what will happen 20 years down the road with the "S" Class?

I remember one summer ( summer of 93, I think) they ran the ferries around the clock. I remember catching a sailing out of Horseshoe Bay at something like 2 A.M, I think. It was pretty busy, lots of big rigs on the car deck. Seemed to make sense at the time, although the food was obviously left over from the previous evenings sailings ( yeccchh ). Actually, it probably left later than 2 A.M, because I remember we watched the sun come up as we approached Nanaimo, out on the upper deck of the "C" class we were on ( in the muster station, which, in the 70's, is what the covered outdoor promenades at either end were called ). That was kind of different.
