Greetings everyone. It's my turn to pick the flagship this upcomming month. So I decided to do something completely different this time. As the title states, "WCF Members in Action", I'll be looking for nominations of group photos brought down to banner dimmensions (840 x 200 up to 960 x 240 pixels). It doesn't have to be strictly group photos either. For an example: It could be a picture of you getting a chance to steer the Queen of Nanaimo when you were young, or a picture of one of us navigating the treacherous shores of Active Pass to get the best V-Class passing photo. But only as long as it includes at least 1 (one) forum member doing some sort of ferry (any brand of ferry by the way) related action. Just remember that when posting a nomination, post a 200x800 pixels, following by a link to the larger banner dimensions. That way it doesn't screw up the thread and cause an annoying amount of side scrolling for some people. All of the other rules apply as well. Nominations will close at 9:00pm (PST) on January 30th, and voting will commence shortly thereafter. Let the nominations begin! Cheers!

Ahem! Although it is well known that I have quite of number of photos of large groups of us, I'm debating whether to enter this contest due to my lack of faith in the democratic process. I was actually considering starting up my own photo thread to showcase some of them instead.

....due to my lack of faith in the democratic process. Do you want to elaborate? As I see it, it's simple. A bunch of people submit no more than 3 nominations by the set cutoff time and present the pics in the manner requested. Then whoever cares to vote, votes.

....due to my lack of faith in the democratic process. Do you want to elaborate? Yeah, that was a euphemism for "Mill Bay is a selfish whiner, somebody slap him." I've just been thinking that my photos lack the strength of character to successfully wage an uphill campaign against the charismatic historical photos of EGFleet, WCK and the armada of DSLR users whose campaigns are strengthened by powerful sponsors like Photoshop. Like I said... someone tell me to shut up, right now.

Hey, I myself am lacking in the photo prowess department, compared to this forum's photo giants. While I'm not expecting to ever win a flagship contest, I consider it fun just to occasionally find a photo of mine that is ok to nominate. This month is a rarity for me, in that I've entered a nomination (3 actually). So as for me, I'm just happy to occasionally have one of my photos on the same ballot as one of the guys with the good-equipment & talent.

That's pretty fun and awesome. It definitely brings a feeling of "action" to the picture. I didn't know that some forum members had twin brothers! The pic of Scott's twin on the far left looks like he's regurgitating Chris' twin's camera bag strap...did you line that up on purpose? Either way, it's funny.

The idea was to show the good and the bad, so we have some less desirable shots and some pretty good ones in there.
Cheers,

Too bad I can't be included, as I have very little access to the ferries due to lack of transport and my family saying "there's nothing you need to do that requires you to get on a ferry".

Do you have any pictures of yourself at the Coastal Renaissance open-house, or on the C-Ren's inaugural sailing?

...so we have some less desirable shots... Yes, thanks for that Brett. My photo on the left looks like it was lifted from a horror movie. As Donella pointed out, it looks like I am regurgitating Chris' camera strap.

Horseshoe Bay in the very late 1970's. 78 or 79. Close: It was sometime between 1974 & early '76. That's because the ship is the Queen of Surrey, and she was purchased in '74 and sailed Route-2 until the Cowichan/Coquitlam entered service in 1976.

I like them all ship-rider, but I really really like 1 and 2. 1 obviously has that great traditional composition, and 2 has that feeling from the Open House of walking into a new space for the first time - it's really great!

Well, I did find this picture... ooops: But if you actually want to submit it, you have 2 issues to resolve: 1) submit a full-size link too. 2) the criteria is "members" and "ferries". Your pic includes prominent placement of a non-member who is also a public figure. How will this non-member feel about her image possibly being used as our flagship banner? I personally think the intent for this month was members & ferries. I think the prominence of the non-member public-figure in your pic is an issue, and I recommend that you resolve it with this month's flagship-moderator. - Alternatively, you could digitally erase or make-unclear the non-member's image. All that said, you look really cool with your glasses. The happiness of the ferry-guy really shows.....and that really captures "members in action" for you. But the issue of the other person needs to be resolved...

Mr. Horn, Denelson has already provided a link to the larger sized photo. You just have to click on the photo itself, and it directs you to another window.
However, I worry about any issue that might arise if we use any photos including Mrs. Marshall. I don't know what her photo policies are. So until someone contacts her (via email?), to inform her about our photo contest and that a few photos including her are on the ballot, I don't think we can use those photos. Now it's not because I don't like the photos, I just don't want to risk getting involved in any legal issues.

And if I was to crop Deb Marshall out of the picture, it would become too small and the context would be lost. Also why would you want to see a blurred face in a forum flagship image? Seems the only way I can get one of my images into the forum flagship position would be for one of you to come over to Courtenay, pick me up and put me on a ferry. Remember that my family won't let me use the van for what they feel to be "frivolous" activities.
