Ok good to know, thanks for the info... sucks that we can't track her all the way up.

The Siitech plot currently indicates that the NE is about to pass the Filipino-registered cargo ship Western Seattle green-to-green. Ok good to know, thanks for the info... sucks that we can't track her all the way up. On our own, indeed. But at least I'm glad the NE has fixed its BCF tracker.

It also shows, in Canucks screen capture above, that her ETA at Victoria (one can assume Victoria Pilot Station) is Friday at 7:00am. It will be interesting to see if that plays out to be true.

Yes, that's her ETA at the VH buoy southwest of Brotchie Ledge.
Compared with the Coastal Celebration's delivery voyage, the NE is quite a bit further out to sea. And it's also possible that like the CC did, the NE will take it slow through the Strait of Juan de Fuca, so that she reaches Brotchie Boarding Station exactly at 07:00 PST on March 6.

On www.marinetraffic.com coverage began around Santa Barbara Ca. & it looks like the coverage will go as far as Santa Rosa ca. Coverage again begins just South of the Mouth of the Columbia River, to just a bit North of it.

7AM at Brotchie eh? Soooo... who's joinin' me for a morning recon? Eggs and bacon at Ogden Point Cafe as we watch her come in? It's going to be a very VERY exciting day. Not gonna do the motor boat thing... too much hassle. I plan on riding my bike along with her at least until I get to Mt. Doug. Then probably driving to Nanaimo to welcome her!

Now west of Monterey Bay, continuing NNW at 13 knots. Uh, ferrynut, I think it's time for your midnight update once again.

03-03-2009 2304PST Back on schedule on my nightly reports. Delayed, though, due to photo server maintenance. Soon, the NORTHERN EXPEDITION will pass the birth place of the now retired Steel-Electrics, the Wooden-Electrics, the hull of the KALAKALA, the SAN MATEO and SHASTA, the SAN DIEGO, the KULSHAN (now GOVERNOR in MA), and others that came to Puget Sound.

You can use TinyPic as a temporary substitute whenever Photobucket goes offline.

The NE has passed to the west of San Francisco and Point Reyes. She is now further west than Departure Bay, continuing NNW at 14 kts. The next mark event will be her entry into Oregon waters, at 42°N.
The NE made a course correction while abeam of Point Arena. Now travelling NNW at 14 knots.

It looks like Friday may be the date of arrival for the NORTHERN EXPEDITION, as per what the pilotage slate shows below (subject to change, naturally):

I'll call the NorEx on SatPhone and remind them that my arrival guess was for March 7th.

It looks like Friday may be the date of arrival for the NORTHERN EXPEDITION,... Yep, that's what Brink told me.
Now over the 40th parallel north and abeam of Cape Mendocino, continuing NNW at 15 knots.
The NE is now less than 100 NM away from entering Oregon waters.

The NORTHERN EXPEDITION should be passing Eureka at this time. As she does this, and that her arrival date is slated for the sixth day of this month of March, I think that the almighty moderator of this Forum should award and hand the checkered flags to "Nick" and "Canucks". These fine people have March 6 placed as their guesses in the arrival pool in this "New Vessels" sector of this Forum. So, we expect to see these individuals in typical floating Nanaimo bathtubs waving the checkered flags when the NORTHERN EXPEDITION crosses the finish line in her incredible voyage from Flensburg. An early tentative set of congratulations to "Nick" and "Canucks"!

03-04-2009 2304PST By the look of things, we may be heading into our last full day of our cruise. So, let's enjoy it as much as we can. Friday, we'll be filling out those Canadian Customs forms to hand to the Customs officer upon arrival in Bathtub City (time to scrub those tubs, Nanaimo folks! ;D).

Latest info from aboard: They have a severe problem right now and for the remaining days, which cannot be solved: There is no more beer available on board

Good. That gives them an incentive to go faster.
The Northern Expedition crossed into Oregon waters at approximately 07:25 UTC (23:25 PST, 33 days 23h11m VET). The next mark event will be the NE's entry into Washington state waters, at latitude 46.25°N.

Latest info from aboard: They have a severe problem right now and for the remaining days, which cannot be solved: There is no more beer available on board During prohibition rum runners used to take their boats out to ships outside the territorial limits and fill up ships with rum and locally brewed hooch of all kinds. Then sail south and do the reverse. In a reversal of direction and true West Coast Tradition I am sure some locals are more than willing to go on a errand of mercy resupply or liquid bunkering to tie them over. Hmm if they get drunk enough maybe it will take them an extra day to sail to BC waters?

Heads Up
For Friday's arrival
ETA Victoria Pilot Station: 0700 ETA Vancouver Harbour entrance: 1200 ETA Nanaimo (Departure Bay): 1630
Yes the ship will go into Vancouver Harbour. I know some of you are excellent photographers so maybe we can send some photos back to Markus in return for all his help in allowing us to watch the ship being built at FSG.
Thanks Kevin
I forgot to include the "subject to change clause" but this is the latest update.

Thanks for the update, Kevin. I think there are a few people who are planning to "ambush" her on arrival tomorrow. I have to work all day, unfortunately, otherwise I'd be out at Clover Point.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the NorEx, possibly more than I was for the Coastals. I'm very grateful for all the effort Markus has put into keeping us up-to-date on the progress of all these ships. I've learned a lot about shipbuilding in the process too.

For the first time in over a month the new ferry is closer to the North Pole than the Equator; presently north of 45N.
