The Northern Expedition entered the Caribbean Sea at approximately 21:57 UTC (13:57 PST, 15 days 13h43m VET). The next mark event will be the NE's docking at Willemstad. Edit: Note to self: It's winter! Stop assuming DST is in effect!

She's gotten up to 16 knots. Must be the relatively calm seas in the Caribbean.

The NE has less than 150 NM remaining until she reaches Willemstad. At current VMG (Velocity WSW at 13 knots), she should arrive in just under 12 hours. Since leaving Flensburg, the NE has travelled more than 5000 NM.

Speed, not velocity. Velocity is a vector, so it has direction. Speed is the magnitude of velocity-- it doesn't have direction. Uh, PK. I know perfectly well the difference between speed and velocity. I said velocity because it is just one word, while "course and speed", the sum of which is velocity, is three words. Since I said a direction, that makes it velocity. (Velocity WSW at 13 knots) See that "WSW"? That's the direction in which she's travelling. If I didn't state that, then it would be speed. Capisce? Edit: And there you have it, Flugel Horn! ;D

Speed, not velocity. Velocity is a vector, so it has direction. Speed is the magnitude of velocity-- it doesn't have direction. For example, if my velocity is -5 mph, I am travelling backwards with speed 5 mph. If the Northern Expedition changes course to let's say 265 and then changes to 240 but keeps to 14 knots she has changed velocity, not speed. If Ferrynut's plane is on a course of 180 degrees from YVR to SEA and then changes briefly to 210, and then to 180 as per instruction from Seattle Air Traffic, the plane has changed velocity but not speed. "The Northern Expedition on her current speed and course should arrive at Curacao in approximately 12 hours". I believe what he said is WSW at 12 kts, which is indeed a vector, albeit not a precise one!

now I realize, that I was totally misinformed about the ETA. The first guess of the 16th was correct - I guess ;-) No further news from the vessel. In this case no news are good news!

Course correction... She's now rounding the island of Bonaire. SW at 12 knots.

Not much beach time in that stop. Maybe time for a quick Pina Colada. Pretty efficient refueling and resupply and now back to the trek.

Holy short visit batman! I guess they're racing to meet their appointment in the Panama Canal?

Unless you are a cruise ship, a quick transit of Panama is unlikely . I would like to be proved wrong!

You are quite correct, Robin! ;D ;D There should almost be a "Panama Canal Wait Time" pool. It seems like it could be anywhere from 2-6 days. . .hopefully minimal this time. OK, I'm really curious about their stop at Willemstad. Was it that they couldn't make it all the way to Cristobal and had to stop for fuel? Is it easier to refuel in Willemstad than at Cristobal? Or is it something else?

The NORTHERN EXPEDITION departed Willemstad at 1215PST.
Here is the sequential still video of her departing. The webcam froze prior to her exiting. As a bonus, though, I include the departure of the cruise ship and the closure of the swing bridge.
Enjoy!
Next up is Panama.

And she's back on her way, departing Willemstad at 17 days 12h01m VET. She's now passing between Aruba and the Paraguaná Peninsula, sailing WNW at 14 knots.

The Name of the Cruise Ship in Port is the Aidaaura which is owned by Aida Cruises. Princess Cruises Sea Princess was also in Port, but not seen in any of the Webcams.
