Ferrynut you're falling a bit behind w/ your 747 flight. How about taking your 747 for a view of the Panama, then up the Pacific. Maybe include a Flight heading North up the Pacific, & eventually going up North to where her new Home will be? Also I want to Thank You for your excellent Flight Sim Graphics! Thank you very much for your neat comments. That flight from GCLP will begin after the NE has punched through the outer islands into the Caribbean so I can then set my flight planner on her exact routing. So, I'm giving my 744 a nice long vacation in the Canaries until then. The flight from Panama will begin after her Panama Canal transit. I have some surprises under the sleeves of my four gold lined (Captain) flight shirt.

It's going to be very interesting how she will leave Curacao. If you remember the COASTAL INSPIRATION's visit there, she never had to turn around in the tight confines there as she is double-ended. The NE has a wheelhouse at one end. I guess that she'll be towed out stern first when she leaves. Or, if she's towed in stern first into the confines. Can't wait to see all this on the Curacao webcam! Mr. Keenleyside and Mr. Nelson, you'll need to dust off your Curacao charts.

Typo in URL there, PK. It's www.liveincuracao.com. Since leaving Flensburg, the NE has travelled over 3000 NM.

If you look at a map, the narrows in Curacao quickly turn into St. Anna bay, which is quite large. Most likely, she would turn around in St. Anna bay. By the way, the port in Curacao - Huge! I'm very impressed. I guess that's where the oil from Venezuela gets refined!

Thank you for the great report, Mr. Brinkmann! Mr. Keenleyside and Mr. Nelson, I guess you can scribble out the 16th and pencil in the 14th for Curacao. 02-09-2009 2305PST

You didn't mention the famous Queen Emma pontoon bridge . You see it in the webcam. When a ship goes by, the bridge swings (floats, really) out of the way. The bridge is a boat on all it's own, with two diesel powered propellers that push it out of the way, and pull it back in. This book: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cay, was one of my favorites growing up. It's set partly in Curacao....

We watched this bridge for many hours when the COASTAL INSPIRATION was in the channel getting her thirsty fuel tank fed. Quite an amazing swing bridge. Us "old salts" had a neat wee bit of discussion on this on her delivery thread. I stand quite corrected on the water formation beyond the channel. This is like a bottle. A narrow entry and more room for its contents inside. Will be interesting to see where the NORTHERN EXPEDITION will moor and how and where she will be turned around. Thank you for educating us on this swing bridge!

I anticipate that the Northern Expedition will pass over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge just over one day from now.

02-10-2009 2305PST As we await the MV NORTHERN EXPEDITION's arrival at Curacao, let us go back about a year ago and watch the MV COASTAL INSPIRATION's visit to this city. This video lasts three minutes, fifty seconds. Action of the swing bridge is included. Enjoy!

02-11-2009 2305PST As we continue to track the NORTHERN EXPEDITION's voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, I tracked a Puget Sound ferry's return to service tonight. The little STEILACOOM II has returned to Port Townsend to restart vehicle service to Keystone tomorrow morning, weather permitting. See this thread for arrival captures and a bulletin from your friends at sea this side of the border: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=nwf&action=display&thread=2203&page=16

How fast is this compared to the Coastals?

The Northern Expedition crossed the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at approximately 07:38 UTC (23:38 PST, 12 days 23h24m VET), and is now considered to be on the American side of the Atlantic Ocean. For comparison purposes, on the Coastal Celebration's delivery voyage, she crossed the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 14 days 14h01m VET. The next mark event on the NE's delivery voyage will be her entry into the Caribbean Sea. Anticipated entry is between the islands of Martinique and Dominica about 2½ days from now. Since leaving Flensburg, the NE has travelled over 4000 NM.

NE is now further west than St. John's, Newfoundland. Will be interesting to see what effect the downturn in the global economy has on the ship traffic volumes through the Panama Canal. May be a shorter wait for the NE vs. the Coastals. NE may still arrive in BC this month with the right weather, etc. Better than having a voyage with two Friday the 13ths!

Expected entry point into the Caribbean Sea has been revised to between Martinique and Saint Lucia.

02-13-2009 2305PST From Mapquest showing a plot each odd hour PST: Hopefully, the spirit of the crew will be lifted after their first sighting of land (for a long time since leaving the Canaries) within several hours or so from now.

Assuming the bridge is 35 m above the waterline, and assuming clear weather in daylight, the crew of the NE should sight land once they come within 21 km or 11 NM of it.

02-14-2009 0905PST Though not as precisely timed legendary Mr. Jack Webster would have like, here is where the NE was at five minutes past nine this morning PST. She is nearing land! Mr. Webster would always start his BCTV shows at NINE AM PRECISELY! When going to a commercial, he would always say "... AFTER THE BREAK!!". Ferries was one of his favourite subjects. I miss seeing him.

Mr. Webster was definitely a legend. His theme music has been used in the "People's Court". Only a few feet where Mr. Webster did his shows, in the same news studio, Mr. Tony Parsons has been doing his News Hour for a long time. I watched this avidly in the 1980s. He and sports anchor Bernie Pascal did great together then. News Hour Final had the nice soft spoken Robert Malcolm. The sports was done by John McKeachie. I really liked this pair and they worked really well. Poor Pamela Martin! She could not help herself but crack up! Martin was often a substitute for Malcolm. McKeachie got her laughing really good during the sports segments. ;D *** *** *** Back to the tracking of the NORTHERN EXPEDITION, I estimate that she'll punch through between the islands of Martinique and Saint Lucia at about 1400PST and enter the Caribbean. Meanwhile, "terrybc" has been at the gate at GCLP too long. Now that I know the exact location where the NE is entering the Caribbean, I can now set up my flight planner. My flight attendants will be called up and we'll be starting the flight shortly. This next flight will take us from GCLP to TNCC. Photo captures will be posted sometime later this weekend.
