Long time no post. Anyways The ultimate trip in my view would be riding the Spirit of BC across the straight in gale force winds. You are not alone - Many of us prefer the more unstable marine conditions as often as they can be produced.

I have a ride on the Queen of Alberni today... i hope its not to bad! Let me know how the Alberni is riding today....I hear that she's in drydock. (or getting ready for it, at the shipyard in North Van.). Perhaps, you're riding on the Coquitlam?

The Alberni is indeed in drydock so unless your riding her in the drydock your probably taking the Coquitlam.
Here we go again Weather Cancellation Posted November 19, 2006 Due to high winds, the 9:00 am sailings from Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay have been cancelled. We will be monitoring weather this morning and will resume sailings when possible.

This seems to be why local news stations are predicting that this might be the worst yet...

21:15 smooth sailing from sturdies back to Swartz Bay Calm before the storm. CBC was saying at 6pm that it was actually calming down at that point, and Global at 11 just laid-out the timeline like this: >4pm Thursday - initial storm arrives from the Pacific >2am Friday - possibly intensifying to gusts of over 100km/h until daybreak

KOMO TV's forcast says the worst will be just after the front passes. There will be gusts up to, and maybe above, 80 MPH through the straight from the wind filling in behind the low. This would be Friday morning.

Well, this weather caught me off guard. This morning I was dreading the wind and rain that was predicted for today, (100mm). But I ended up being sent home from work early today, because of blowing snow. It suprised me because I thought the wind would have been coming from the South, but instead it decided to come from the North, and then the precip started to fall as snow. So its now a winter wonderland at my place......again.

We had a mix of Rain and Snow earlier this afternoon, with the worst downpours between 1 and 2 PM during my class 5 road test (which I passed, btw. No more N!!! ;D).

I couldn't believe how much snow fell here in only 4 hours.

We got nailed hard in the Seattle area. My power has been off from 10:30 Thursday night until about three hours ago. Did an inch of rain in about two hours Thursday night, then the wind was just terrible. My parents are about five miles east of me and they will be out for another couple of days still.

Looks like the swells in the Hecate Strait are reaching eight meters tomorrow.

Looks like the swells in the Hecate Strait are reaching eight meters tomorrow. And on the day of the arrival of the Sonia, such seas on her designated route - a taste of what's in store for her in years to come.

Well we lost our power early Friday morning till Sunday evening and our cable and internet have been out up until today which is why I havent been online which has been frustrating. Everything is back on now so that's good! No more storms! I hate the stupid wind now. I used to like it. Now I dont!

I'm still dealing with internet problems, but it's not wind related. I've been tapping into the neighbor's internet for the last 4 days.

All the mainland sailings are fine. It looked pretty choppy off Sidney today but at Swartz Bay it wasent that windy as the Saanich and Vancouver are still running at half capacity as it's not really busy this afternoon. The 4pm at 3:40 was only 28% full so all sailings tonight wont be full! A good night to travel though!

When I was on the Oak Bay and Esquimalt the weather was terrible! there was huge waves, and the ferries were rolling tons! It was also raining/ hailing and the crew ordered everyone to come inside! I can still feel the rolling on the ships as I type this! yesterday on TSW-SWB it was a little bit windy but not too bad (not compared to today!)
