This should be interesting! We'll have to watch this!
The Daily Planet Show was in B.C. in February shooting stories about construction projects and technology in our province. They shot a segment on BC Ferries refits and major vessel upgrades featuring the Spirit of British Columbia and the Queen of Alberni. The program is scheduled to air on The Discovery Channel on Thursday, May 24 at 8:00 pm (Channel 27 in Victoria and Channel 42 in Vancouver). Special thanks to all of the many employees who assisted during the filming particularly: • Captain Andy Patterson, Senior Master, Spirit of British Columbia • Paul Radford, Engineering Superintendent, Swartz Bay • Peter Deutsch, EHS and ISO Manager, Deas Pacific Marine • Lawrence Johnson, Project Manager, Queen of Alberni MLU • Mark Collins, VP Engineering I’m sure the show will demonstrate the dedication and professionalism of our employees and our strong commitment to reinvest in the fleet.

oohh, what a dilemma:
- I want to see the Daily-Planet show about ferries.
- but then, I'd have to listen to Natasha Stillwell.
- but I'm interested in ferries.
- Maybe if I take 10 tylenols or a few vallium, I'll be able to handle listening to Nathasha Stillwell.....

I know for sure that I am going to miss this show: (a) I am going to be working at that time and (b) I don't pay enough to get the tier above basic cable that DISCOVERY is in.
Therefore, I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to "file" me a copy of this part of the episode when it airs?
Much appreciated in advance, fellow forum mates!

I'll see if I can program my VCR to record it, and then see if I can throw it on to youtube or something.

Just to clear things up, today is Tuesday 22 May 2007. All the previous dates said Thursday 24 May 2007. 4pm/1600 8pm/2000 today (22nd) or 24th? Even more confused than when I started reading!!!

There was an apparent programming change. Because of this, it will be tonight at 4:00 and 8:00 - NOT the 24th as previously stated[/u]...

Alright, I guess I'm the first one back from my TV. The Show featured: - Alberni MLU (inside and out)
- SoBC Annual Refit
- Supposedly the new I class ferry
- and some lovely shots from Departure Bay and Swartz Bay.

It just ended now. It was very well done, I thouroughly (sp) enjoyed it. The stuff they did on the SOBC and Queen of Alberni was quite interesting. For those of you who are watching it at 8:00, you will enjoy it!

Here's the Daily Planet BC Ferries piece:

Jay Ingram's opening statement says that "....with no new ships on the horizon, BC Ferries needs to be as efficient as they can be with the current ships".
That's just plain wrong. Someone needs to send Jay to Flensberger, where there are 3 in progress.....plus 1 more in progress in North Van. C-Renaissance is arriving in autumn-07....isn't that "on the horizon" ?
Also, Mark Collins, the BCFS VP-Engineering (at 3:57 in the clip) says that the Alberni is "1 of 4 C-Class Vessels" in the fleet. Again, that's just plain wrong, for someone who should know better.

Queen of Coquitlam sometimes thinks it is a V every now and then (or atleast it used to)

Wow, that caught me right off guard with the change of when it was to air. Many thanks to denelson83, who went out of his/her way to record and post the segment here. Very much appreciated, as I was at work when the show was on.

Yes thanks for posting so quickly. I missed the airing here and now don't have to watch the whole program waiting for it come on.
