On Saturday July 22nd there will be a 11:30pm sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay with the SOBC according to RBI and it's on the schedules too. I wonder what this sailing is all about??? If they are using the SOBC then she needs to come back to Tsawwassen and there is no sailing coming back at all! I bet Grahame will be on that sailing, lol!

Interesting stuff.. kind of reminds me of that strange sailing to Horseshoe Bay at 10:30 from Bowen.. It makes one passenger sailing, and then another one empty. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If I have to see one more of those Johhny ads, I swear, I will drive my fist through my computer screen.

What's gonna be interesting with that is that berth 2 is still gonna be out of service so the SOBC is gonna have to dock where? berth 1? If so they will have to move the SOVI! I doubt it is a special sailing or anything as they have it listed on the RBI. I remember once seeing a 10:10pm special sailing years ago from HSB to DB for Garth Brooks fans returning from a concert in Vancouver! I have the paper article on it! I wonder what is up with this sailing???

They dont use berth 3 for the Spirits when they are in service, berth 3 has no overhead walkway. They only tie them up as I have seen the SOVI in berth 3 while she was in refit!

Well if Berth 1 is going to be occupied and you cannot unload at berth 4 or 5 then there is only one option unless they plan on tying up the vessel before that at 3.

The Saanich will be in berth 3 if berth 2 isent finished yet. Plus you also have the Cumbie in berth 4 and the Mayne Queen in berth 5 and the SOVI in 1 so they would probably have to move the SOVI!

I just heard about this, and my first thought, knowing that the new 'revolutionary' floating berth is now going to be completed in "late July," was that this might be for an official media event for the unveiling of the berth, the next day possibly; just a thought.

When I did my trip to Gabriola last week, I read on a bulletin board on the Queen of Oak bay that that extra sailing is for those who are attending a special Basketball game fundraiser of some sort, which BCF is sponsoring.

I think berth 2 is for the new super c class, coming to route 1 in late 07 and i think they are doing that to berth 2 in nanaimo, as well its just an experiment i think but it has to be for the super c class look what they did for the spirits, in the early 90's.

July 22nd at GM Place there is a Steve Nash charity basketball game. Seeing as he is Victoria born and raised there will probably be a very high number of people from the island over for this game. This crowd would be enough for an extra sailing

That Bowen sailing that leaves HSB but "never returns" is too allow the Queen of Capilano to tie up at Bowen in the summer should all three berths at HSB be required. It used to be don e more frequently than it is now, and the crew would be watertaxied home (and too work in the morning, I suppose).

Bay will be rebuilt similar to the current Berth three... As of now, there are no plans for it being a floating berth - only rebuilding the structure (including dual lane discharge for both upper and lower), as well as changing it from the current hydraulic /lock and pin mechanism, to the updated computer controlled hydraulic system...

Are there going to be any modifications to the Foot passenger walkways? Like replacing the walkways to the ramps with the ones with windows.

If BCFS plans go ahead, most terminal buildings will be replaced and rebuilt - including the skywalks for berth two and three...

Ahh, interesting stuff. All I can say, it's about time they put some money into Departure Bay. The foot passenger walkways from the ticket booths to the skywalks are smelling kind of musty, like there's a bad case of mold. Could be just me though.

They are not just you, they look like they could collapse at any moment and boy, Departure Bay needs a renovation BADLY.

How shiny the paint isn't everything Agreed, Dane. Look at YVR (Vancouver International Airport); the entire Domestic Terminal rebuild has used the existing infrastructure to the utmost ammount possible. The cost savings alone is worth it, let alone advancing the war against the " build-it-up, tear-it-down" mentality that seems to have taken hold in many parts of North America over the last couple centuries.

Weird...I thought the double-lane ramps came before the upper ramps.
