Why don't they have 24-hour service on that route, using smaller vessels to match the traffic load late at night, since it is a heavily travelled corridor between two important cities? I'm sure there are many commercial delivery vehicles and air travellers, among others, who could use these late night sailings. Would there be too much in the way of noise issues to it or something?

Why isn't there a bridge between the mainland and the island?

Ruddernut, you're running out of your available "Why not this/that" allotment of questions by the new guy. The main response to some of these questions is ship & crew constraints, lack of availability, etc. I invite you to check our old threads for similar discussions.

I agree that there should be 24 hour service on the TSA-SWB run. In New York, Staten Island is served round the clock. They use the 4500 passenger MOLINARI, MARCHI, and SPIRIT OF AMERICA during the day as well as the 6000 passenger BARBERI or NEWHOUSE in heavy commute hours. At around 11pm or midnight, they make fast the big ones and use the 1200 passenger "Night Owl" class AUSTEN or NOBLE until the first morning commute. BCF should get a fleet of night owls for the TSA-SWB run based on the design of Martha's Vineyard's new MV ISLAND HOME (see my thread on "a new mini COQUITLAM for MA" in the Northwest section of this site). They could use the QUEEN OF CUMBERLAND if they can make her faster for 2 hour turnarounds and enclose the ends like the ISLAND HOME for rough water sailings across the Strait. Perhaps the QUEEN OF TSAWWASSEN should be retained for this. In any event, this route should be round the clock operations. -ferrynutseattle

In addition to what is said above, the new suggested night owls could serve the Gulf Islands from TSA during the day on an improved schedule with greater frequency (serving with, or replacing the QUEEN OF NANAIMO). Gulf Islands trips by day, TSA-SWB by night.
