Has the Queen of Saanich ever been used on the Duke Point - Tsawwassen route?

Yes. She relieved the Alberni last year for a short time.

I wonder if anyone will make a big deal over the Esquimalt being in the Alberni's place this year?

The Esquimalt has taken over for the Alberni many times. The only reason why it was weird to see the Saanich on Route 30, is because about 98% of the time it runs on Route 1. Have you ever seen the Saanich on route 2? Maybe a long time ago, but definitely not recently. The Vancouver was on Route 2 in place of the Esquimalt as an extra in 2003. If you think about it, the Esquimalt is the ferry that really gets around, running on Routes 1,2,3, and 30 at different times of the year, while the other 2 V's stick to route 1 most of the time.

notmuchlonger,
Do you know which Ferry will be replacing the Alberni this winter when she goes in for Mid-Life this winter? I'm assuming it will be the Cowichan, seeming the Coquitlam went to route 3, and was the spare last summer. But the RBI still doesn't show where the Surrey goes this summer, but I'm thinking it will go on Route 2, making the Cowichan the spare this year (The Surrey and Oak Bay being the two that were upgraded more recently). Hopefully the Esquimalt doesn't replace the Alberni this winter, because that could cause alot of frustration with the adjusted schedule and everything.

We've been told that we'll be on the Coquitlam for that period when the Alberni is in for her MLU. All Alberni crews were just Marinark chute trained last month in preparation for that.

Probably the Cowichan will go to Langdale if they want the newest refurbished ships on route 2 the Oak Bay and Surrey!

Why are they pissed about the Esquimalt on Route 30? What other ship would they prefer?

They want a ship that goes faster, and is Double Ended. A.K.A. The C Class.

either way they will be pissed if a V class is on route 30 or route 2, so which route would you prefer a V class on then, route 30 or 2??? I would say putting the Alberni on route 2 is a joke, I know she has done it before but with the smaller passenger accomadations, it's pretty crazy. Why not leave the Alberni on route 30 move the New West to route 2 to replace the Cowichan move the Cowichan to replace the Oak Bay, no that wouldent work cause they still need a replacement for the New West on route 30 then, either way it will be a v class on one of the routes. It's only for a few weeks so people will just have to deal with it. notmuchlonger, if you had charge what ship would you put on route 30 to replace the Alberni?

They actually had the New West on route 2 two years ago for the refit situation. The Alberni is on route 2 because she can mantain a schedule to where there is not a need to modify two schedule's and just the one.

They have had the Esquimalt on route 3 but the crew and the residents I thought complained about the Esquimalt being on route 3, or was that the Alberni??

Probably the Alberni... The Esquimalt has been on route 3 several times, and no complaints yet... See, what's lost in speed, is made up in capacity.

what would be wrong with having the surrey and oak bay on the DEEp - HSB route? they are larger, and have a greater Pax Capacity (maybe not total capacity. but the oak bay feels roomier.

Alberni, far before my being aware of what was happening at BC Ferries was their vessel, but they pulled it because of lack of passenger areas as residents had complained. The Esquimalt garners criticism from the local 'advisory panel' that works with BCFS because of it's age and slower traveling time. That being said when I was at the meeting where the advisory groups voiced there concerns the only people who didn't complain about their vessel was Bowen Isalnd. I dodn't think the major routes have these committees, no one spoke on them at least.

We would prefer that they leave the Alberni on rte 30 and stop "borrowing" it for rte 2 and 3. Every time they do it just kills our commercial traffic on rte 30. Of course it has do go in for refit once a year and must be replaced. A "C" class is the most desireable schedule wise. The Esquimalt is just too slow and results in overtime tagged onto an already long day. If it were me, I'd put the Esquimalt on rte 3, and put the Coquitam onto rte 2 to replace the Cowichan. The Langdale crews and passengers grumbled endlessly when the Alberni went there last year.

It sounds to me like they don't seem to appreciate much of what BCFS gets them... they have limited resources and do what they can so the residents of the area should perhaps be less whiny. I actually felt bad for David Hahn watching the residents go after him about the 'poor' service. A lot of the publically lead resistance is actually assisted by Adrienne Carr, and despite disagreeing with her politics I have the upmost respect for her. I wish she'd get off this cause, though

They have a rep as the biggest whiners, followed closely by the bowen crylanders
