Well, according to the Yahoo Forum, we finally have a date when the Quinsam goes for refit. It goes this Friday on the 24th, until March 31st. Should be quite the overhaul!

Yeah, I wonder what will replace her. The Bowen? Well, too bad she cannot stay in her old colours, she looks nicer in the red, blue and white livery.

The Bowen will replace her indeed. I guess this will be the last picture of the Quinsam in the original colours, as seen from Duke Point on Sunday.

The Fleet is finally completely Wave colours as of when she gets out and it's about time. Took them almost 3 years to repaint the whole fleet just because of the Quinsam

March 3rd is the date now I think, as the Bowen Queen is in the drydock.

Yeah the Bowen is still in Esquimalt right now. I think she is docked where the Cumbie was while she was there. She isent in the drydock but tied up next to it.

The Quinsam should be moved up to the Campbell River to Quadra Island we were discussing on the Yahoo Board to stop the complainers who were complaining about the disabled area on the car deck being removed. They should just have a ship like the Quinsam on the run then everything is on one deck so it aint a problem for disabled people. I know it would be a pain for disabled people who cant make it up to the passenger deck, so why not have a ship with all the amenities on one deck.

I would suspect the Powell River Queen is going to be retired within the next few years anyways...so they might as well wait until then. There is probably disabled people on the Gabriola Island run too.

This isn't something you see too often, mechanical difficulties with the Quinsam.
Sailing Delays Posted February 28, 2006
Due to a mechanical issue with the vessel, the Quinsam is running behind schedule today. Customers on the Gabriola Island to Nanaimo Harbour route can expect sailing delays to continue this afternoon and evening.
Must be nearing time for a refit!!

Alright, It's official now. Here's the service notice.
Temporary Vessel Replacement Posted March 02, 2006 March 5 - April 7
The Quinsam will be out of service on the Gabriola Island route from Sunday, March 5 through Friday, April 7 for annual refit.
During this period the Bowen Queen will be the replacement vessel.
Although the Bowen Queen has a similar car and passenger capacity to the Quinsam, commercial customers please note that vehicles over 10 tonnes GVW (10,000 kg) are restricted to centre lane loading only on the Bowen Queen.
This means there will be reduced capacity for commercial vehicles travelling on the Gabriola Island route while the Quinsam is in refit.
BC Ferries looks forward to returning the Quinsam to service on Saturday, April 8.

As of Friday night the Bowen Queen is still in Esquimalt so I would assume she would be leaving on Saturday to go up to Nanaimo so she can take over for the Quinsam on Sunday.

Last time the Quinsam went for refitt she headed for Swartz Bay after her last sailing from Nanaimo to Gabriola. She past the Bowen Queen heading out towards Entrance Island. There is only room for one ship at Descanso Bay.

If the Quinsam returns to Nanaimo Harbour on Saturday Apr 8th, does that mean that on Friday Apr 7th she will stop at Swartz bay for a bit? Like she did on her way to Victoria.

More than likley yes, and the reason is to pick up crew vehicles. The Crew have to get down to Victoria somehow. But I am wondering what the logic to this is. Would it not be cheaper to rent a small bus to transport the crew instead of each crew taking his or her own car?
When I was down at Departure Bay just after the Queen of Tsawwassen arrived I watched about 5 or so cars come off of the ship.
