WHAT?! This is outrageous! It is just a copy of this forum! It's a HORRIBLE idea! Mac, you make your copyright sound so good, so don't copy other forum names. I SUGGEST you change it immediately....

Been a plagiarist - I guess for John is the best form of flattery that he or this forum could ask for.
Mac Write has been trying for a while. A bit of a loser I guess.
Trouble in the "Hen house" well I do think that the children should cut back on there sugar intake a little and take a chill pill as Stronger Skier would say.
Look at the bigger picture - we are here and going strong - no more to say......

Nick - a plagiarist is someone who steals ideas - hence Mac Write has "stolen" this forum concept and thinks he can make it better.
Is this any clearer for you?

I was being sarcastic. My twisted sense of humor doesn't translate to message board format.
This is the work of a bitter person (Mac Write). If you notice, he posts more here than over there.
It's easier to ignore it than worry about it.

It's just a domain registration. What he's doing is making it so his page comes up on a Google search if someone searches for Ferries of BC above this site.

Well someone could write / email a number of the newspapers and radio stations - sit back and watch the traffic come to this site and forum.
Not sure where Mac Write is going with his concept or what he hopes at the end of the day to achieve - if anything?
I agree that no one so far is tapping / selling T-Shirts and sorted image stuff of the different vessel in the fleet. BC Ferries is trying - not much success there - hence maybe he sees an opening in the market place.
I therefore guess that the copyright issue on who owns BC Ferries is with whom ? BC Ferries or the tax payers of BC or the government?
I know that Mac Write asked a legal forum about the copyright issue on the Ferries a few months back - so this is well planned on his part.

Under the copyright act of canada, Mac cannot use the copyrighted name of "Ferries of British Columbia" or anything related to this website. the Server may be in the US, but the Author "John Hammersmark" does Live ina Treaty country with canada (It is Canada) and all work created by him is therefore covered by Copyright Act of Canada Part 1 Subsection 5

The name is for the site, and no one registered the domain name. It came from the name I used for the calendar. I also think of this forum as "The Ferry Terminal Forums" since that's Johns sites name. It's suites the goal of the site better then "View BC Ferries" (which is limited to BC Ferries). The new name covers all ferries in BC. Including and not limited to: HarbourLynxâ„¢, Seasbus, Highway ferries, albien ferry, and so forth.
The sites goals are to build a complete archive of the history of ferries in the province (months of full time research as in 8 hours a day/5 days a wek). The site will also be one place anyone can host there images of ferries in BC which will help get them more exposure and not have the limits of webshots (300 images) and Yahoo! (small images). Images will be catalogued by ship, ship section, location, terminal, terminal area, etc. Of course you can also search by user as well. It's going to be allot of work, but it will provide us with one place for everything related to BC Ferries and promote the ferries. We can also help the union in talking about issues as well as talk about issues that BCF has (yes take both sides, be a neutral place).
Then there are the DVD's on BCF I want to do which is going to cost me 10-20K+.
Other then the blinding forum color scheme (to me at least and others I know who I show it to), I am concerned about what happens is ProBoards folds gets bought, moves to paid only etc. Since this is a free forum there is not a guarantee that it will be around in 1 2 3 years, since it's free and can disappear at any time. This is the risk that is being taken and I do worry that this could happen as it has over 15,000 posts of useful information.

mac I noticed that you have Hlynx as a trademark trademark of you or of another company? number 2 you cant back up a forums data anyways and you want people to pay to use your services because it would cost so much to start it however people want to do this for free not pay otherwise are you saying that yahoo could disapppear too?

My site is 100% free never said it's a pay service, I didn't trademark HarbourLynx what you talking about. I will offer premium services to help support the site, but to view the site will be 100% free. Using premium services (like this forum has), product sales, that will help fund future projects.
Yes you can backup a forum data as I do it all the time to my forums. Yahoo! is more secure, but they limit the photo display size to like 640x480.

well ViewBCFerries that means British Columbia Ferries not a specific company unless you had BCF services inc. but it is still a copy of our forum name and I want you to please change the name because most people do not like it

I will not change the name, lots of sites use similar names and I didn't see the name before I did this and it is staying as it best describes the site. I've already invested in it and am not going to loose the money on it, and there is no better name.

Yes, but I am focusing on the content side of the site, not the forum side as much. It's going to be resource for all.
Anyone know much about the ferries Pre 1960? not many, I want to fill in those gaps.

MAC, change the name. It's certainly not going to bring anyone from this forum to yours...so don't count on it. I was thinking about it, but now it's a definite NO.

As I have said I was not trying to ripp off this name. IF you want to pay to take my site I might consider it, but since I have invested $100 in the domains I am not going to give it up, and it's a good name (which would just go to a porn site if I dump it thanks to people looking at expiring domains).
