if anyone remembers back to 2000 before the webcams there would usually be a 3 sail wait maybe in 2002 I think on every route and a 2 sail wait on route 2 was there any major event within the first five years of this millenium?

Hmmm... I guess this year has less traffic because of the lack of sun and heat that we've had this year. At least it's gonna get hot for the next few days.

Yes, just in time for our Long Beach trip. It's even supposed to be sunny at Long Beach, which is uncommon. This is my 500th post...wonder if I will switch ranks???

Today, 16 July, was the best summer day I've enjoyed for many years. Early morning at home in New Westminster, there was overcast and a bit of spitting drizzle. I took one dog, Bo, on another footsore ramble to Nanaimo. 30 minutes out of HB on Oak Bay, we had a big blue sky and a stiff breeze. Whitecaps on the strait, and Vancouver Island's mountains standing dark blue under fluffy cumulus caps. It got even better. We roamed Newcastle Island for six hours. The sea breeze cooled the deep woods, but with enough warmth that the scent of Oregon Grape, flowering Sea Spray and salal berries perfumed the air. O Paradise! A few ferry pics follow. This first one is a classic BC scene. Kayakers near Newcastle as Cowichan loads for her 3pm sailing: Slipping past Tyne Point, Cow heads for Horseshoe Bay: Four hours later, Cow is back to take us home:

Earlier, in Oak Bay's dismal dog pen, I had the pleasant company of Nancy and her poodle Johnny. Bo had his thick coat massaged and his ears fondled, while jealous Johnny looked on:

A couple more ferry pics: Coquitlam outbound as we arrived at Departure Bay Saturday morning on Oak Bay -- ... and a happy little boat, the Newcastle ferry operated efficiently by the Nanaimo native people. Our deckhand's shirt reads: "Give A Man A Fish, And He Will Eat For A Day. Teach A Man To Fish, And He Will Sit In A Boat All Weekend, Drinking Beer."

Speaking of SUMMER, our Long Beach trip (which is probably all we get) has been delayed for stupid reasons and I'm not very impressed.

Actually there's a Long Beach on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, and that's what he's talking about. It's quite nice over there.

Ya especially when it's sunny...and that's uncommon. This week, however, it IS supposed to be sunny over there. The place is a little cold and foggy at night but it's pretty good.

There is a Long Beach too in Washington! We are going down to Washington probably August 19 for a few days then coming back into BC! I have been to Long Beach in California too when we were down there in April! That's where the Queen Mary is!

Well it's supposed to be nice and hot for the next couple of weeks, so that's good. I'm seriously getting sick and tired of this crappy, cold rainy weather that we've getting here for most of June and July. It hasn't been summer-like since late-May!

I was getting pissed at it. 'Bout time the sun came. Hopefully we can work something out for our trip this week.

Back in the 70's the New Canadian Riot act was read in public 3 times.
1. Long Beach - Vancouver Island 2. Vancouver - Rolling Stones - were in Town 3. Quebec - FLQ were playing around and killing people and the general public demand a few heads of the government.
Thank God we have the RCMP...
So just think about your trip to Long Beach and the History it holds. Are we going with or without clothes?
