I have to say, either BC Ferries dont have there overhead announcements loud enough or some people are just plain stupid!!
Last Friday when I took the 1pm sailing from Swartz Bay, the reserve lane starts to move, and to what I see, two cars not moving with no one in them, cars are pulling out and going around, then finally the morons are running back to their cars. If I had charge, I would send those peope to the very last lane. Obviously they are not in a hurry if there not back at their vehicle at time of loading. And to be in the reserve lane too, they reserve then they dont return to their vehicle to load. BC Ferries over the annoucements you could tell where mad, cause they said something like, the passengers in lane 2 please return to your vehicle now as we are trying to load the vessel.
If I was doing the annoucements, I would of said, the passengers in lane two please proceed to the back of lane 5 as you will not be loading with the rest of the reserved line at this time, due to the fact you werent back at your vehicle in time for loading. There not there in time, they should have to wait. Too bad if they paid extra for a reservation, should be back to your vehicle in time then. Just like people who miss flights. I dont feel sorry for them, should allow more time.
One time I went to Pender Island and two cars ahead the lady wasent back at her car and the lady ahead of me and I got in trouble cause we pulled around her. I thought well piss on this, if she's not back in time then that's her fualt. She should have to wait. Oh man, stuff like this pisses me off! Just had to blow off some steam! What do you guys think?

thats happened, when people come to the lynx on out last sailing ,and the boat is literally just pulling out, and they want us to call the boat back to get them, just cause they reserved. and then they try to blame us for thier faults.

yup, it's annoying! Sometimes I have to admit I can hardly hear the announcements at some of the terminals! But you still can hear them. Actually coming back on the 7pm Saturday night we were sitting in the Cafeteria and we dident hear the announcements to go down to the car. We must of missed it. Must of been pretty low in volume to not hear it.

sometimes peo;le just tune it out until its time. We dont have announcements @ the lynx terminals, but were having a thing setup that if you reserve, you can get a page or TXT message when theres 5 minutes till sailing.

Yeah well I dont listen to announcements anyways in my opinion they call you down to early anyway if you have a car with you. Me I go down right at the last minute. Let all the crowds get down ahead.

I agree with everyone on this, if I ever become a terminal attendant and someone is in line not going I will tell them move your buts to the last lane and you get to wait a few sailings! Man they would be pissed so much but is causes disruption to loading so they get to wait for the next sailing.

yup they are obviously in no hurry if they arent back at their vehicles in time. Makes it even more annoying if there ones with reservations. Still your reservation wont be cancelled, you will have just paid extra to sit at the end of the line if you do something like that.

People would be pissed though if they did that. But I would like to see that, it might be funny to see the look on peoples faces when they say you will have to pull to the end of the last lane. That's what happens when you dont listen to announcements!

LOL that would be funny they would swear at the attendent or maybe do what happend to that guy on the Burnaby when she was on Route 2 how he made TIME magazine "the hard way" because when he blew the horn and was heading straight for the berth. There was a boat in the way ( a row boat) and the guy and girl who were in it got to take a swim. The guy thought the ferry would go right past them but he was wrong and tried to steer clear and when he got on he got the captain square in the eye and arrested. This is from the Banerman book

It seems to me, that the nearer you are to the tower where the anouncement tower is, the lower volume the sound is, but if you are in a certain radius, at least 40 metres away from the tower, then you can hear it, maybe because the announcement cannot spread too good beneath the tower.

well then get a surrond sound system, that is what they have at Kingston Terminal in Washington so you can hear.

Duke Point has a pretty high tech PA system. Check this site out: mcsquared.com/dukepoint.htmI don't think they really have speakers around the tower say at Tsawwassen but do further away.

And I dont even thing Duke Point would need something like that as there really is only one route from there and it should be pretty easy to tellif a ferry is in and loading.

They really want to make another single ramp berth there with a layout like Langdale and have the Quinsam dock there instead of downtown Nanaimo. But they've been wanting to do that since the terminal was built in 97 and the residents of Gabriola find that a bus service to downtown Nanaimo is alot more complicated than just going straght to downtown Nanaimo. I remember when they had the Quinsam dock at Duke Point in 1998 I think because they were repairing the normal dock. It was kinda nice because the trip was cut in two making it 10 minutes instead of 20. Haven't been on her since then.

Yeah Naniamo Harbour would be more conveniant for Gabriola residents but it's only a 20 min sailing so it isent that long anyways.

Maybe a bridge or a causeway is in order to cut through the peninsula that Duke Point is on through the bay to Downtown Nanaimo and save...about ten minutes

Say speaking of a single ramp berth I don't think that would be a good idea because they might have to fix the current berth and suspend service plus the Alberni has no articulating ramps to access the upper car deck so a double ramped Berth is the way to go

Why does there have to be two major teminals in Nanaimo, wouldn't it be easier to have the ferries to HSB and Tswwassen go from one terminal?
M.V Quinsam is fine, her dock may be rotting because of the water, it may take years for the complete collapse though, anyway, I wonder what the straight wooden dock is right next to it?
It would be nice to see the V class alongside the C Class, Quinsam could go there when the current dock collapses.
