You know something? Now that you mention it, I thought I heard somewhere, that that was exactly, this "Arthur's" plan once he had scuttled the ship, to sink her. Now PLEASE, don't take that as Gospel. I say I only THOUGHT I heard it, I could be wrong. I don't want to start any false rumors You know how to find out for sure what his plans are tho? If you check that link I sent for Arthur's Marine, I beleive he had an e-mail option on the page. One could always e-mail this guy & ask him what his plans are. Hey, while you're at it, you might also want to ask him what his policy is re: visitors allowed on the ship to take pics:)

Here's another quesation - with regards to the "Queen of Sidney" - once she is "dead" or completely out of the BCF fleet - what happens to her name?
What if they sank her for ...say diving - instead of selling for scrap - as she is still in BC waters - will her name go on another vessel ?
Does anyone know?

If that is corret - then aren't BCF going to run out of coastal names to use on any new vessels?
You surely can't use an inland city name for a Ferry system - or can they ?

Normally what happens to a name is they add a number after the name. Ie Quadra Queen 2. Or Princess Margarete 3 (forgive my spelling). The Queen of Surrey is the second ship with that name in the fleet. The Current Queen of The North had this name between 1974 and 1980. So it is concievable you may have another Queen of Sidney or Queen of Victoria, etc

cascade,
Once the significant coastal names are used up, one might suggest that BC Ferries reverts to using aboriginal names, after all, our neighbours to the south have used aboriginal names for decades.

What the heck. I decided to take the plunge. I just e-mailed Arthur re: his ship. Here's a copy of my e-mail to Art: Hello there Arthur. My name is Biff & I just have a question regarding your policy of visitors to your ship. I'm a bit of a BC Ferry historian & was wondering if you allow people to visit the Queen of Sidney & take photos? I understand you are running a business & are probably quite busy, but I figured I just had to ask. - Kindest regards, Biff. - I'll let you all know what(if anything) he has to say

A bit surprised he is not making more use of the Old Queen. Here in London - we bring this type of vessel down the Thames - and fit out as a Restaurant. Moore her up - and collect the money. It seems every couple of years there's a new one. We currently have 3 vessesl.

They do that here too. For years one of the old North Vancouver ferries, which served as the main link between Dowtown Vancouver and the North Shore, was used as the Seven Seas Seafood Restaurant untill the late 90s when it got too expensive to keep that old ferry afloat.

Yes they had that problem here with one of them. I did wonder how they handled all that sh.t and where it went.
A tug hit one a few years back and it sunk - and they used one in the James Bond movie a few years back.
So why not give the old girl a great send off - have one of those Hollywood action type movies blow it up. (Maybe BCFS would not be happy - as the last pictures someone posted - show the old logo on the funnel)

theyh never painted her with the new colors, cause she was gone before BCF became a Private company, also. if you check, we cant call her the Queen Of Sidney anymore, because transport canada listed her as no longer under the name of QoS.

So - going back on this "old" subject again - if she is no longer listed as the Queen of Sidney - then who has the name - can it be re-used ?
Can one of the new vessels therefore be called - say for example "Queen of Sidney 11"
It would be a shame to actually lose this name.

That's quite sad if any ship could be named Queen of Sidney now. Well if any ship is going to be named that, I hope it's with the BC Ferry fleet and not with another one.

Hey Y'all, just ran through your "Queen of Sydney" thread and found some of the discussion a bit amusing.(No, ya can't group together and sneak on to the Sydney!)There are actually watchmen there 24 hrs a day. You will probably not get a response from Arthur at Arthur's Marine, I don't believe he checks that mail anymore. I have to ask...What do you want to take pictures of? You have to understand that she has changed a bit since you would have last seen her. Last comment, I understand you get your information from wherever, but there is quite a bit of misinformation here.Maybe check your sources. Great Board, Bill What the heck. I decided to take the plunge. I just e-mailed Arthur re: his ship. Here's a copy of my e-mail to Art: Hello there Arthur.
