We have been talking about this idea off and on before - as what to do with the older vessel's in the fleet. I have voiced an option that one or two of them should be turned over and used as a floating musuem. Some people are against this idea.
Bill - what is the "light weight" of the Queen? as that is the most you would currently get in the open market for scrap.
I still think there is a tax / credit / break - thing on putting funds into something like this.
What are the three biggest industries in BC ?
1. Forest Products 2. Mining 3. Tourism 4. Fishing
So which ones has growth - Tourism.
I also think that she would be a perfect floating conferance centre. She could be based at the Government wharf - end of Beacon Ave - Sidney. (Nice little / new marina there) Does anyone know if the Queen Mary in Long Beach ever made money - doing just this type of thing? Would be interested to hear.

The name issue - I just can't seem to find out - one way or another as to who has - owns the name - "Queen of Sidney"
So Harbourlynx Kid - where have you got your info from - as I can't seem to find it.
The name alone would be worth something - even if you just transfer it to some vessel.

It's the Queen of Sidney, just to clarify things. The Queen of Sydney would be Sydney Australlia. ;D

send an email to BCF - will most likey die of heart attack if I get a reply.

When asking BCF questions, because they're such a large co. it helps to know just who to direct your queries to. I suggest you contact Deborah D ykes, herself at Human Resources, since her job is Public Relations. Hey, maybe even tell her about our club, maybe get some more members out of it!

I got David Hahn's email address - and yes I got a general reply back saying they rec'd my email and will reply in "due course".
I got his address from an old family friend - who is now an MLA.
I also brought up the subject of what were the plans on old vessels in the fleet and could they not been given to "their" home port - which they were named after.
We will see what they think or what sort of reply I get back. So far - it is very standard for large corp to give this type of "lip" service back to the general public.

Yeah, I'm very skeptical whether-or-not you'll hear back from them, but I think it's admirable that you gave it a shot anyway.

Yea - if you don't ask or try - then you will never know. I may have mentioned in the past - that if I get back a "real" reply - then I would most likey die of a heart attack.
To keep me quite - they did a reply - semi-automatic answer / reply - so I guess in there replies - numbers ect.... that counts as a reply.
Still trying to get this handle on the usage of the name "Queen of Sidney" any help would be gratefull.

2 Things:
1) Kimberley the cat lady is likely Harry's little sister.
2) If you want to get contact with Deborah d**es (I'll pass up the opportunity for jokes) Marshall, then you might want to frequent the beauty salons and other princess type shops in the big city. Or maybe a barbie-doll convention.
My enduring memory of Deborah was her trying to demonstrate for news cameras how the car-deck of the fast-cats was not slippery......this was just after a guy had a motorcycle accident on board, because of the slick deck. A good spin doctor she was not. I think being the media-relations person for BCF would be a very difficult job, at the best of times.

Up Date - I still have not had a "real" reply back to my email and I guess I won't get one - with regards to what happens to the older ships in the Fleet and about keeping some of the early "Queens" - for pure historical interest.
No one has yet come forward with an idea on who has the name "Queen of Sidney" - and if the vessel is sold - then what happens to the name ?
Can BCF use the name on a new vessel?
Has anyone been able to get some up to date pictures of the Old Queen of Sidney?

at this point, anyone can use the name
|
|
|
Post by cascade on Apr 25, 2005 7:37:24 GMT -8
Not so sure - as I asked at Lloyds. We can not use the name - Queen or Royal on any vessel in the UK - nor can we use these types of names in forming a company.
Maybe in the FOC countries you could - but the vessel would have to be flagged in BC / Canada - and therefore think that they follow England in these matters - what does everyone think??
