I recently came across quite a find at a book store on the island. It's a paper bound booklet, typed only on one side of each page, with the title: "Travel Agents Sales Guide for British Columbia Ferries VIA M.V. Queen of Prince Rupert." By the looks of some of the prices listed (Such as: car AND driver, one way (Kelsey Bay to Prince Rupert), peak season for $60), and the general appearance of the booklet, I'd have to guess it's fairly old. Since there's nothing to incate a copyright, and because I know you guy's on this board could really appreciate it, I decided that I would post the deck plan of the QPR that's included in the booklet. Find it @: community.webshots.com/photo/273929225/287053218ZBdnmT

I have a BC Ferries Brochure from 1969 that list the same prices as the book you have. So it was probably published around the same time.
I also have an old dinner menu from the QPR. There is no date on it but dinner was only $5 ;D

I have now posted the photos that I took from my trip on friday night's 9pm sailing of the Queen of Saanich from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen. You all know about the cancellations and reasons for them (if you don't, refer to topic: cancellations...), but when it came time for me to catch the ferry, delays effected the two sailings before mine, and my sailing was almost on time. The 7pm SOVI departure was delayed until about 7:30 and the Queen of Esquimalt extra sailing due to leave at 8:30 actually left at 8:50 or so. The Queen of Saanich was so close behind the Queen of Esquimalt that the Saanich had to wait in Swartz Bay for the Esquimalt to leave. After the SOBC and Esquimalt cleared out almost all the cars in the lot, the Saanich was left to practically dead-head to Tsawwassen. I counted only 15 vehicles aboard! See the pics in my Deas / Ghost Ship gallery: community.webshots.com/album/281220752SfoEFK

Awesome! The only time I was on a V class, actually was the Queen of New West on a late night from Duke Point at 10:45 back in the summer of 97, the only time I been on the New West. And she wasent that empty as the Saanich but might of been maybe 30 cars or so on her. The lower vehicle deck wasent even half full. Only other ferry that wasent crowded besided the New Years eve trip on the SOVI from Tsawwassen was the NIP back in like the summer 97 I think we had gone over in the late afternoon to Texada and came back like two hours later around 8pm and there was only 3 cars aboard and no one up top. The whole upstairs lounge we had to our selves. I have also been on the Cumbie when she has been almost empty. One sailing last year at 7:20 from Pender Island on a Saturday night going to Mayne Galiano then back to Swartz Bay only 3 cars boarded at Pender but got a bit more as we stopped at other islands. It's nice when there are not alot of people on board. I hate crowded sailings.

Wow I never knew how much Queen of Saanich was basically identical to the way Queen of Cowichan was before her second mid life refit with the chairs and all.

Considering the range of ships at deas right now and the sunny day, I decided to get some photos (especially before the SOBC leaves). At deas right now are the Klitsa, The Queen of the North, The Queen of Burnaby, and The Spirit of British Columbia (plus some non-BC Ferries ship that I didn't recognize). I have now posted photos of all of these ships at Deas Pacific Marine in my 'Deas / Ghost Ship' gallery: community.webshots.com/album/281220752SfoEFK

Yeah, awesome photos. Some of those photos I cant open though for some reason, some work and some dont. So can you actually go on to the Deas grounds from the railway tracks?? Dosent look like there is a fence there and you can just walk right up, which I dont think would be a good idea to do. But I am assuming those photos were taken right by the railway tracks? Is that an active railway that goes by there?? Just curious. Also in this photo community.webshots.com/photo/281220752/290612768sRZRdWIf you look closely at the SOBC I think they have put in fire windows right below where the lift raft is cause the windown look a bit smaller. I dident know they were do that.

Hey in these pictures there's an old dock ramp, like an upper deck ramp too. It took me a while to notice what was in that area across from the ferries there where the picture was taken, and there's all sorts of stuff from or for the docks there it looks like. I wonder which terminal that ramp is from though. Maybe Departure Bay when it had 2 seperate berths with their old ramps back in the days when the Duke Point ferries to Tsawwassen would dock at Departure Bay and go to Tsawwassen from there. That is so cool, I thought they would dispose stuff like that to a junkyard or something. community.webshots.com/photo/281220752/290595305eFfTtncommunity.webshots.com/photo/281220752/290595455gQzwRD

The tracks skirt the Deas property to the north, starting in the east at the DPM(Deas Pacific Marine) admin building, curving around north west to south west. The deas property is a fairly long, thin strip of land that is wedged between the Fraser River and the tracks near the ships' entrance, and farther west is actually between the tracks and the Delta Agregate company (I'm pretty sure that's the name). There is only fence surrounding the property closer to the ships, making it easy to take unobstructed photos from the very edge of the property (which, conveniently, is also the edge of the railway property).
The only trespassing necesary is on railway property, and fortunately this railway line happens to be one of the quiet ones, only handling trains carrying cars from the boxy ships that tie up on the other side of Hwy 99. It seems there is atleast one train a day, though. Trespass at your own risk, but personally I've never felt any moral conflict over it. I feel that as long as I am fully aware of my surroundings when anywhere close to the tracks, I am taking away the principle reason for why they don't allow you to trespass.
And yes, I too noticed the fire windows. But no, I am not surprised, not after all the ships that have had them installed so far. And I will never again be surprised at any mutilation of the ships that BCFS performs, especially after what they did to the Queen of Tsawwassen's forward observation lounge windows (although, that's not to say that I don't like those windows on the Tsawwassen, it just seemed very drastic to do that to such an historic vessel).

In atleast one of the pics (I might not have posted it, or it might be one of the one's that aren't there) I tried to line up that ramp with the SOBC's lower car deck door; it's not meant to look realistic, though.
I will try to fix the problem with the missing pics. I'll also be adding just a few more to other categories, will post when i'm done.
