My interest in the ferries stems from my family having a C&C Landfall 38' sailboat for most of my childhood. Our primary stomping grounds were the Gulf Islands, and the ferries were always something to be admired. Today I am more able to appreciate both the marine architecture involved in building the ferries, as well as their role as a vital transportation link.

Whoa man, man! those are good. I've never seen snow on a ferry before. That one pic with the man standing watch on the Esquimalt in the snow, that must be a crappy job in that kind of weather.

Yes, cool photos. Those ones of Deas looking across at the ferries, where did you take those??? I was there today but couldent get a good view of the ferries from the other side as I wanted to get a photo. Never did get photos of the Surrey Burnaby and the Queen of the North cause of the sun, they wouldent of turned out.
Those photos are neat of the snow. I wish I could get on a ferry when there is a snow storm like that. Would be neat!

I've added to my webshots gallery a pic of Sturdies Bay, Galiano Island of the last modifications to be done before the dock was to be closed to ferry traffic. The pic was taken on thrusday (two days before it was to be closed for major modifications). community.webshots.com/photo/273929225/280767823OluFSY

(sorry for double posting)
Karl,
I took those pics of deas from the CN Rail line that skirts the northern edge of the Deas property. Still, the sun was quite annoying to work with at those angles, and I made sure to get there early in the day when the sun was high in the sky.

Yeah I sort of thought that is where they were taken from. Dident know if it would of been a good idea to walk down there but I guess it would be. I will have to remember that for next time.

Hey "Tsawwassen Terminal", on the section BC Ferries @ night, on the picture you have posted as Queen of Cowichan or Coquitlam, is acutally the Coquitlam. Because she has alot more bottom car deck windows than Cowichan and a smaller elevator room behind the port side of the Nanaimo end bridge. Just thought I would confirm that for you ;D

Ferryman, Thanx for the heads up. Now I remember the difference between them.
Karl, I had set up that trip to the island a month before to see some friends of mine. Other than almost missing my bus connection, thanx the bus having to drive slowly because of the snow, I made it to the island in one piece. Unfortunately, as we were approaching Swartz Bay, the captain informed us that the Pat Bay Hwy. was closed between us and Victoria. In the end someone offered me a drive. The blizzard-like conditions and the minus double digit windchill factor when on outside decks made that trip quite a ride.

FYI - I have finished posting another gallery (Q. of Alberni and Bowen Q. @ Horseshoe Bay). The first half of these pics were taken when the Bowen Queen was replacing the Queen of Capilano. GOTO: community.webshots.com/album/281414385MntoEk
