If they were to enclose the Outdoor Solariums, The Cafeteria could be moved into there in order make more room on the main passenger deck. I said it just might work. It would be somthing like the Sannich's Upper Deck Restaurant that they don't use much.

Only one problem: the Alberi's solarium is tiny. They can't (I would assume) build under the funnel, so that idea is toast...unless they just had some lame tiny cafeteria...which the passengers would hate worse than having the small passenger deck.

They could extend the solarium area into one passenger deck one way streching from the two bridges of the Alberni and the new area would go from both sides of the ship so the idea isn't totally out and as for weight the V Class have a upper car deck and a upper deck (they don't sink) the Alberni could take it as well as a V Class. Just no upper sun deck around the funnel on the Alberni

Naw, I think removing the underused Snack Bar is the best of the ideas. Either that or just replace the solariums with SEATING as the Cafeteria won't fit in that small room up there. And if I remember, there is only one solarium...and it's extremely small.

Actually I never thought of that. Remove the snack bar and make that lounge bigger. They dont need a snack bar on the Alberni as it is never used. Before when I had never been on the Alberni I thought she dident have a snack bar because the poster I have with the profiles of the ships says the Alberni dosent have a snack bar. Just a cafeteria. But now I have been on her twice both times it's been closed. I cant remember if it was closed the last time I was on her when she was on the Horseshoe Bay run.

I doubt they will extend the passenger deck in her reburbishment, but I couldn't be sure. There is another topic about this saying that the Alberni is supposed to get stretched, I think the Queen of Alberni Problem has been resolved after 2 long months of debating this.

welll...they found that the smoke was coming to close to the passengars...so the engineers @ BCF designed that to allow smoke and exhaust to vent higher up, and away from passengars(passengers)

The coquitlam and cowichan have them, I think during the refit they got added because the old pictures of the cowichan they are not there and the surry and oak bay do not have them.

Surrey got them before she was put in the new colours and Oak Bay got them when she got painted in the new colours in 2003. But Queen of Alberni has the biggest most noticeable pipes sticking out.

I think he means he doesn't have to *SQUEEGEE* the funnel as often anymore. Which makes sense, it sure looks like an awkward job

Probably which ever the direction the ferry is going that end is going to be the busier end for the crowds. The less busy end of the ship is the opposite end the ship is going cause most people like to see ahead rather than behind I would think. I like it either way. I dont know what would be the busiest other than the Cafeteria, not much on the Alberni really, a tiny little gift shop, snack bar they dont use. Actually I was on the Cowichan going over to Horseshoe Bay on Wednesday and they never opened the Snack Bar, guess it wasent busy enough for them to open. Even coming back too.

they were probably on a liciense that did not require the number of crew that would have the snack bar open. that is pretty much what the snack bar is for is to give crew something to do. with different amounts of passengers onboard then the crew level must meet that. you wouldn't want 2-3 crew sitting around just waiting to help evacuate a ship you need them doing something productive

When I went over to Horseshoe Bay on Wednesday on the Cowichan I was sitting at the Naniamo end in the lounge and was thinking, they wouldent have to extend the passenger ends on the Alberni that much really. If you look on the Cowichan, look at where the outside doors are to go out on each end of the ship. The front windows on the Alberni would be where the first row of seats start on the Cowichan at the Nanaimo end, give or take a little, roughly that is. So I would say the rest of the passenger lounge on the Cow, from the first row of seats to the front windows would be as much as they would have to extend the passenger lounges on the Alberni to make her look like the Cow and Coq. What we need to see is the Cowichan and Alberni side to side. That might give us a better idea. Unless they want to make the Alberni like the Oak Bay and Surrey then you might need a bit more extention.
