The grounding occurred at Prince of Wales Island, some 25 miles west of Ketchikan. I've received one version of the story from the son of the last owner. It seems you have to have permission from Fish & Game to set up a fishing camp... they found their spot, were denied, and apparently returned to find someone from F&G or a buddy thereof has set one up in the same spot.
Anyway, I love the pic of the Vashon in Evergreenfleet's sig line... clearly late in her career, as the much-needed green stripe atop the auto-deck level was gone. Cute boat, and I wish I'd gotten the chance to ride her.

Oh, by the way, I do believe the Mighty Nisqually is hanging about at Everett Shipyard.

Oh, by the way, I do believe the Mighty Nisqually is hanging about at Everett Shipyard. I just checked the Everett webcam and saw this: The IFB for the preservation work was awarded to Cascade General, so why is the Nisqually at Everett Shipyards (which was the only other yard to submit a bid)? There's a Jumbo Mark II vessel there as well, but which one? edited to correct spelling error

I'm not sure, it maybe the Wenatchee because they have to speed her up through the process. That is where the Tacoma was not too long ago.

I am curious to know if the Nisqually is still on schedule or if she is waiting for space so she can be finished with her scheduled updates.
As we have recently seen, it seems as though, WSF needs all of it's vessels ready for service.

I don't know that the Nisqually has a set 'return to service' date... but they're definitely trying to get her back in one piece.

Oh, right. I'm sorry, I meant to post that a few days ago. Since the other two are back in service, it's the Tacoma. *blush*

Is MV Nisqually still at the Everett shipyard or is she back in retirement at Eagle Harbor? I haven't heard if her yard work has been completed yet.

I believe she's still in Everett.

I believe she's still in Everett. Checking the Everett Heralds live cam there's still a Steelie there and since the other three are accounted for, that must be her.

Does anybody know why she is at the Everett Shipyard? I read the IFB and she was supposed to be retrofitted at another yard.
Did the other yard back out of the contract and the Everett yard get the contract because they were the next lowest bidder?
Is this going to delay the estimated time of completion?

It's my understanding that the Nisqually is not on a hard and fast schedule... WSF just wants it ready for service, when we can get it back.

I was wondering why I did not see it at Eagle Harbor when I got off the Wenatchee headed for Clearwater yesterday. The times I passed through Bainbridge Terminal last year, I always noticed the Nisqually was there. I normally would have a camera with me, but left it behind this time because it was too dark, and I am nto too skilled on the flash settings.

Welcome aboard, EvergreenBoatrider! And you now know why the Nisqually's not been loafing about at Eagle Harbor... I look forward to her return.

Last night right before my dinner was ready I noticed a Steel Electric coming round the buoy towards Eagle Harbor. She stopped briefly at the Bainbridge ferry terminal and then went over to the Eagle Harbor shipyard and tied up. I am pretty sure that it was the Nisqually as the Quinault is idle down there and the Klickitat and Illahee are still running according to the vessel watch.

Nisqually moved from Everett Shipyard to Eagle Harbor yesterday (2/20) under her own power. Speed underway... 7 knots. That makes for a long trip!

Ahh so I was right! It was nice to see her under her own power again. I wonder what time she left Everett?

I think she will probably still need to have sea trials and another inspection by the Coast Guard to get her COI back.
And that is if all of the required updates and repairs have been completed.
That is a guess on my part. Maybe someone "in the know" as it were, could give a better answer on how far away she is to maybe actually seeing some active duty again.
Since the Quinault is going to see use at Edmonds soon and the Illahee and Klickitat needing work, maybe she might be used soon?

But what's up with the 7 knot speed?

Without being part of the move crew, the first thing I would speculate is that they may have set in new motor brushes in the drive motors and needed to "burn them in" at a lower speed for a while to settle them in and get them comfortable.
Any way you slice it, talk about the Slow Boat to China...

Just curious to know if anyone has an update in regards to the progress in the Nisqually's refurbishment.
I know she's at Eagle Harbor. Any word on what is left to do before she gets her Inspection by the Coast Guard?

According to Barnicle on another post, she will likely be ready for spring service on the Port Townsend-Keystone run when the MV Klickitat is out of service for annual maintenance.

According to Barnicle on another post, she will likely be ready for spring service on the Port Townsend-Keystone run when the MV Klickitat is out of service for annual maintenance. From the US Coast Guard's Port Service Information Exchange: (http://cgmix.uscg.mil/PSIX/VesselSearch.aspx) Service Status: Out of ServiceCase Number:2869662 USCG Zone/Port: Seattle, WA Incident Date: February 9, 2007 Activity Type:Vessel Inspection As of this update, and they update this site weekly I believe, so the last one was Monday, 5 March, , no COI has been issued for the Nisqually. Given that she's been inspected that would lead me to believe there are still some unresolved issues that need to be taken care of. It might be some time yet.
